Cynopsis: Kids!

5/14/07

Good morning. It’s Monday, May 14, 2007 and this is your first early morning briefing.

The first movie trailer for Bratz: The Movie is now online.  Set for release August 10, 2007, the movie is produced by Avi Arad, Lionsgate Films and MGA Entertainment. ( http://movies.yahoo.com/summer-movies/Bratz/1809823937 )

Industrial Light & Magic will create the visual effects for Marvel Studio’s upcoming Iron Man movie, per Hollywood Reporter.  On the flip side, audio design and audio mixing on the movie will be taken up by Skywalker Sound.

MORE KIDS STUFF

As it reaches its first anniversary this month, BabyFirstTV will introduce its new programming lineup on Monday, May 28, 2007.  The new line-up features the debuts of series including: Shushybye Baby; Harry The Bunny; Arty Party; Peekaboo, I See You; Where Do They Go?; Musti; Clay World; What Is It?; and Spirello.   BabyFirstTV is currently available in 68+ million households worldwide and is a monthly subscription-based service in the US.

From Iron Man to Iron Kid – Channel One Russia Worldwide TV (C1RW) has acquired BRB Internacional’s animated action/adventure series Iron Kid.  C1RW, which broadcasts in Russian to many former soviet republics in addition to Israel, Germany, the UK, Canada, Australia and some eastern European countries, plans to debut Iron Kid this fall 2007 on TV Nanny KID’s channel, a digital pay channel.  The deal comes a month before DISCOP, the Eastern European commercial TV market, which will be held in Budapest, June 20-22, 2007.

Televix Entertainment has sold the cable rights for the animated series Chaotic to Jetix Latin America.  The 40 episode half-hour show targeted to K9-12 is an adventure and fantasy series currently broadcasting in the U.S. on Saturday mornings on Fox.  Jetix Latin America is planning to launch the series by 4Q2007.  Televix Entertainment will be offering Chaotic and other series to Free TV channels in Latin America during the LA Screenings this month.

MARKETING/LICENSING

Toei Animation has established an in-house licensing division that will be based in LA and focus specifically on the US market.  To lead its new licensing unit Toei has tapped Coy Edmunds as Director/Business Development and Licensing. The Toei licensing group will be at the NY International Licensing Show next month launching with its Digimon brand.

More than a month out from the release of the animated movie Ratatouille, Disney/Pixar launched The Big Cheese Tour over the weekend at Disney World in Florida.  Based on the upcoming movie, which opens June 28, 2007, The Big Cheese Tour features a ride (down a 25-foot wedge of cheese), a sneak peek at the movie, cooking demonstrations as well as Ratatouille video game demos, and a behind the scenes look at the making of the movie.  Set to make stops at events/food festivals throughout the summer, promotional partners for The Big Cheese Tour include Intel Corporations, General Mills, and Samsung and THQ.

Jakks Pacific has completed a master toy licensing deal for Shushybye, a baby-preschool targeted brand.  Under the agreement Shushybye toys will be released as part of Jakks’ Child Guidance brand.  First up will be a line of play toys based on the Shushybye property.

Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing has inked a publishing deal for Exodus Film Group’s CG-animated movie, Igor.  The publisher’s Simon Scribbles and Simon Spotlight imprints will publish a total of seven books, in various formats, based on the tween-targeted comedy.  Currently in production, Igor will be distributed by The Weinstein Company and is set for a wide release October 24, 2008.  Directed by animation veteran Tony Leondis, the movie has a significant cast of celebrity voices.

With all that climbing there’s no doubt Spidey is thirsty. Cott Corporation has released special Spider-Man 3 carbonated drinks in the US in partnership with Wal-Mart.  Under a license from Spider-Man Merchandising, Cott’s special Spider-Man 3 sodas come in three flavors  green apple, blue raspberry and orange in 12-pack 8 ounce cans.  According to Cott, the drinks have 33% less sugar than regular sodas.

RWS & Associates Entertainment and Educational Adventures have entered into a licensing deal to market and distribute the Danger Rangers Safety Rules! Live Show into entertainment venues.  Under the deal the live show will be marketed to theme parks, cruise ships, resorts, shopping centers and conventions.  Now in its second season, the show is co-produced by RWS and Educational Adventures.
