Cynopsis: Kids!
03/29/10

Good morning. It’s Monday, March 29, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Screaming kids, stars, musical performances, sliming, special guests, 115 million votes (cast February 25-March 27), and more slime, were the focus of Nickelodeon’s 23rd Annual Kids’ Choice Awards, which aired live on Saturday (8-9:30p) from LA with Kevin James as host.  James opened the show with a little help from his pal comedian Adam Sandler, dressed as an angel and suspended from above the stage, as they sang “Get Slimed Tonight (an adaptation of KC and the Sunshine Band’s song Get Down Tonight), and of course, lots of slime.  It was a double winning evening for The Twilight Saga: New Moon, though not as Best Movie – that honor went to Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel – with Taylor Lautner winning as Favorite Movie Actor as Jake in New Moon and Lautner and Kristen Stewart taking home an orange blimp as Cutest Couple as Jake and Bella.  As we told you previously, First Lady Michelle Obama was given the network’s first Big Help Award for her initiative, Let’s Move!  The evening also featured two new movie spots from Paramount for its upcoming movies Iron Man 2 (May 7) and The Last Airbender (July 2).  Presenting sponsors of 2010 Kids’ Choice Awards are Burger King, General Mills and Hasbro. Associate sponsors are Kmart, Kraft, Nintendo, Procter & Gamble and Skechers. Other kid favorites winners from the evening include:

MORE KIDS STUFF

London-based Cake Entertainment and partner France-based TeamTO unveil their third collaborative project, OOOHHHASIS (78×7), a 3D animated series.  The co-production also includes Seoul-based animation studio Tuba Entertainment.  OOOHHHASIS follows the adventures of a lizard hero named Oscar in a desert full of sun, sand, chickens, three no good neighbors, and a road that runs right through it.  Cake, which is handling the worldwide rights for the comedy (excluding France) will debut the series at MIPTV in April.  Cake and TeamTO previously teamed for the 3D comedy series Hareport and Angelo Rules.

A range of new broadcast deals for BRB Internacional‘s animated property Bernard.  The made for TV movie My Friend Bernard is picked up by Cartoon Network Latin America.  The TV series of Bernard (156×3) has been acquired by HBO for Eastern Europe, Teletoon (France), MTV and Mega Sport for Ukraine, Estonian TV (Estonia), DR (Denmark), Tring Digital (Albania).  Meanwhile, channel 2X2 (Russia) renews its rights for the series. Also, Canal Panda (Portugal) recently picked up the corresponding TV rights.  Additionally, BRB’s studio Screen 21 has begun production in Barcelona on a Bernard feature-length film, entitled Superbernard, which is set to premiere in 2012.  BRB will be at MIPTV.

Showcase for Kids will launch two new titles at MIPTV, an animated series and a family-targeted theatrical feature film.  Additionally, Showcase for Kids will offer its live-action comedy series, The Wannabes, which is currently airing on ABC3 (Australia), and its animated comedy, Action Dad.

  • Yoo Hoo and Friends (52×11) – the animated comedy revolves around five greedy corporate executives that aim to rob the Earth of everything … until Mother Nature’s husband, Father Time, comes up with a plan to help them learn the error of their ways and turns them into furry creatures.  The fuzzy little former executive can only return to their human form when they have recovered pieces of a gem, which are scattered around the world.
  • White Lion – Shot on Location outside of Johannesburg, the family adventure follows Letsatsi, a young White Lion cast from his pride because his color makes him stand out in the African wilderness, and his forced perilous journey of survivals.  Letsatsi survives with the help of an older lion and young Shangaan warrior and grows up to have a pride of his own.  In Africa, according to the Shangaan legend, a white lion is considered a messenger of the gods.  The movie was released last month in South Africa on 50 screens.

MARKETING/LICENSING

A Squared Entertainment (A2) is teaming with GetFugu ( www.getfugu.com ), a next generation mobile search tool, to develop kid-targeted mobile applications using GetFugu technology for multiple platforms.  Under the deal, GetFugu will develop an interface featuring video, educational and game content produced by A2.  GetFugu will manage the backend for the projects.  The first project in development is based on Secret Millionaire’s Club, a new animated series created by A2 in partnership with businessman Warren Buffett that aims to teach kids about business and how the world around them works.  This new partnership will extend the content currently being created by A2 and one of its main distribution channels, Aol.

BBC Worldwide, Ragdoll and Minor Entertainment outline the world premiere and nationwide tour of In The Night Garden Live ( www.nightgardenlive.com ) the first theatrical venture for the brand.  The 60-minute show, which is created in an inflatable touring theatre including show domes to recreate the world of the preschool TV series, will open for a two-week run on July 17, 2010 at Sefton Park in Liverpool and then move on to London in August and Glasgow in September, with one final location yet to be announced.  The new live show is written by In the Night Garden creator/composer, Andrew Davenport, directed by choreographer/director, Will Tuckett, and produced by theatre producer Andrew Collier from Minor Entertainment.

StickerYou ( www.stickeryou.com ) debuts its first online custom sticker maker with brand partners including Peanuts, Mr. Men and Little Miss, Star Trek, and League of Super Evil, with brand such as Lego, Showtime‘s Dexter, among others, to follow.  The platform allows consumers to customize and create their own sheets (8.5 inches x 10.5 inches) of removable, vinyl stickers including uploading personal images.
