Cynopsis
03/13/06
Good morning. It’s Monday, March 13, 2006, and this is your first early morning briefing.
Just one month after Univision was officially placed on the sale block, a group of investors has plans to make a bid on the Spanish-language media company. Mexico’s Grupo Televisa, Venezuela’s Venevision and its Cisneros family majority stockholders, TV producer/billionaire Haim Saban and two U.S.-based firms, Madison Dearborn Partners and Providence Equity, have let their interest be known in an anticipated $12 billion bid. Venevision and Televisa currently own 24% of Univision. The news drove Univision’s stocks up by $1.26, up by 3.83%. Univision currently holds a market value of over $10.4 billion but is looking for a purchase price valued around $13 billion.
Tonight’s Premiere:
CBS: The New Adventures of Old Christine at 830p
* MORE GOOD STUFF *The 1972 television special Liza with a Z starring Liza Minnelli and choreographed by Bob Fosse, will be seen on Showtime on April 1, the first time since 1972, and the special will be released on a DVD on April 4. The special includes several classic songs such as God Bless the Child, Bye Bye Blackbird and a medley from Cabaret.
Disney CEO, Robert Iger spoke about the DVD release of the old Disney feature Song of the South, controversial due to its portrayal of African Americans. Iger said the company had discussed the release of Song of the South and that he had recently watched the movie, and told shareholders that the company would not release the movie on DVD.
TLC will launch a new tagline on March 27: Live and Learn. The new tag replaces the long-used Life Unscripted tag which helped usher in the network’s biggest series Trading Spaces which helped the network reach its most viewed era in 2003 with an average of 1.2 million viewers in primetime. So far this year, the average is in the 778,000 range, up from last year. Soon after the new tagline will come two new series — Honey, We’re Killing the Kids wherein a nutritionist visits a family to guide them on proper nutrition for the whole family. The second is called Shalom in the Home, with a Rabbi visiting the home and helping the family sort thru relationship issues with the kids as well as mom and dad. And the reality series. The Monastery which follows a group of people who go on a 40-day retreat.
Correction: There were two editions of Cynopsis sent out on Friday morning. The second and Revised copy corrected the error that Black.White. debuted on Bravo. Of course it didn’t – that was a mistake – Black.White. is an FX series. My apologies for the confusion.
