We’ve got kids news covered for you daily during Upfront season…

Lots of news out of the Disney camp even as the company prepares for its Upfront presentation to advertisers Tuesday in New York. Cynopsis Kids! will be there. In the meantime, here’s what we’re hearing…

Disney Channel hopes it has its next homegrown star-in-the-making in newcomer Dove Cameron. The 17-year-old Cameron has notched the dual role of identical twins in the network’s newly ordered series Liv & Maddie, and is also starring in its original movie Cloud 9. The sitcom spirals around Liv, a TV star whose popular show is winding down, and Maddie, the school basketball phenom whose star is on the rise. As for Cameron, we’re thinking she’s probably also got an album in some stage of development. Just a guess…
Disney Channel continues to channel its inner princess as it rolls into development on series Star and the Forces of Evil (working title), an animated comedy adventure about a fun-loving magical teen princess from another dimension who gets sent to earth to live with a family. The series is created and co-exec-produced by artist/writer Daron Nefcy, the young talent behind another upcoming Disney Channel series, Wander Over Yonder.

Expanding Universe: The Marvel Universe programming block on Disney XD is growing with the debut of two new animated series–Marvel’s Avengers Assemble and Marvel’s Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. Marvel’s Avengers Assemble kicks off with a one-hour preview on May 26, followed by the series premiere July 7. Marvel’s Hulk and the Agents S.M.A.S.H. premieres Aug. 11… In related news, Marvel is testing a digital initiative called Project Gamma that integrates digital music into the panels of an electronic comic book. As readers flip through the panels, the sound effects change. Marvel was demo-ing the technology this weekend at South By Southwest… Additionally, Funky Monkey Snacks is launching a line of kid-friendly freeze-dried fruit treats with flavors connected to popular super heroes, like Ultimate Strawberries (Ultimate Spiderman), Legendary Cinnamon Apples and Mighty Bananas (Mighty Thor).

PBS Kids series WorldGirl is springing forward this week with a themed week called WorldGirl (M)Arch Enemy Week. Five new episodes will feature WorldGirl superhero Becky Botford battling popular villains from the series.

Licensing News
In anticipation of Universal Pictures’ and Illumination Entertainment’s summer theatrical release Despicable Me 2, Universal Partnerships & Licensing is trotting out the first collection of Despicable Me 2 toys through manufacturers including Thinkway Toys, Hasbro and Basic Fun.

Madrid-based kids content shop Vodka selected Simba as the master toy licensee for its latest multiplatform content brand Bugsted, a co-production with Amina Estudios. Aimed at 8-11 year olds, Bugsted will roll out first as a miniseries, followed in September 2013 with an app for iPhone, iPad and Android, and collectible action figures.

MIPTV News: Toronto’s 9 Story Entertainment is shopping a slate of new series at MIPTV. Among them are animated comedy Nerds and Monsters, aimed at 6-11 year olds, which finds a group of nerdy kids on an uncharted island with a tribe of dim-witted monsters, and Cache Craze, a geo-caching competition series that is part treasure hunt, part adventure challenge.
