Good morning. It’s Monday, June 28, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) handed out awards to the winners of the 37th Annual Daytime Entertainment Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Saturday night at a ceremony held at the Westin Bonaventure in LA. The Daytime Entertainment Creative Arts Emmy Awards recognize outstanding achievement in all creative fields of daytime TV production and are presented to individuals and programs broadcast from 2a-6p during the 2009 calendar year.
Leading the way in the kid-centric categories was PBS with 15 wins, followed by Nickelodeon with 11, and Disney Channel, Ion and The CW with one win each. ABC Family will offer a special telecast of Warner Bros.‘ new Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie trailer tonight during the launch of the network’s new series Huge (9-10p). The trailer releases worldwide today.
In other Potter and ABC Family happenings, the network will host a Harry Potter Weekend, Thursday-Sunday, July 8-11. The event will include first five Harry Potter films and also feature previously unseen interviews and footage from the upcoming two-part movie finale, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (part 1, November 19, 2010; part 2 July 15, 2011).

Scholastic Storybook Treasures DVD series is set to launch a new line of DVDs that teach early sign language skills featuring classic kid’s storybooks. Designed to for preschoolers of all hearing abilities to help with their literacy and pre-reading skills, the first two titles in series, Goodnight Moon…And More Great Bedtime Stories and A Pocket For Corduroy…And more Stories About Friendship, will release on July 27 at retail and newkideo.com (www.newkideo.com ). The third title in the series, Five Little Monkeys, will release later this fall. Each DVD in the series features vocabulary sections and an interactive quiz on each story to build comprehension skills and enhance sign language learning, offering both vocal and ASL sign language narration, developed by educational experts from Signs for Intelligence.
Stockholm-based PAN Vision Group, an indie publisher and distributor of interactive entertainment, in conjunction with Amsterdam-based licensor Mercis bv will release Miffy’s World, a new video game based on the popular kid-targeted property Miffy, on WiiWare this summer. Developed by indie Portugal-based game developer Biodroid, Miffy’s World is a simulation game world for younger kids featuring a range of creative games and puzzles that encourage players to interact with Miffy and her of animal pals. The game also offers a unique parent control feature that only lets the game be played between the real world hours of 6a-9p (or a time chosen by parents). Time in the game is synchronized with the Wii’s internal clock and real time will be visible by the relative position of the sun from sunrise to sunset and on the clock inside Miffy’s house. As the shut down time approaches an alert will be sent to the player, the game will be saved and an animation will show Miffy going to bed.

Ingvar Petursson is appointed SVP/Information Services, Nintendo of America. Petursson lead the multi-year project of modernizing Nintendo of America’s systems. Most recently, Petursson served as SVP and CIO, Expedia, Inc. He also held lead information technology positions as AT&T Wireless, Corbis Corporation and The Regence Group.
GameStop Corp. names Bruce Kulp as SVP/Supply Chain & Refurbishment. He will oversee all aspects of GameStop’s supply chain as well as the employees at its two distribution centers and refurbishment center. Kulp previously worked as VP/Worldwide Supply Chain Operations and VP/Logistics, Tech Data Corporation, and he also served as SVP/Operations, Home Shopping Network.
