Good Morning, it’s Monday, July 9, 2007 and this is your first early morning briefing.

Football is back in the game as the upfront season for NFL sales ramps up.  This time last year football was scheduled to move to NBC on Sunday nights, ABC’s Monday night Football was no more as those games moved to ESPN, CBS and Fox were status quo.  The upshot – football did well on the broadcast and cable networks – CBS and Fox on Sunday afternoon, ESPN on Monday nights and and NBC on Sunday nights.  And the proof is in this year’s upfront buying.  Advertisers returning for next season include Anheuser-Busch, Southwest Airlines, Coors, General Motors, ford, Chrysler, AT&T and Sprint among others, and according to several reports inventory is moving quickly.

Tonight’s Premieres:
ABC Family: Greek at 9p
ESPN: The Bronx is Burning at 10p

~ MORE STUFF ~

Granting a reprieve from near cancellation, NBC has decided to renew Donald Trump’s reality show The Apprentice for a seventh season, and possibly more, according to a report from Reuters. In mid-May, The Apprentice did not appear on NBC’s 2007-2008 primetime roster but after NBC hired Ben Silverman, talks between the network, Trump and executive producer Mark Burnett resumed. An official announcement could be made as early as today.  Trump and NBC also have a partnership involving the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants as both were renewed last March through 2010.

Litton Entertainment will distribute Storm Stories the 30m series that showcases Mother Nature in all her extreme might which airs on The Weather Channel. In national syndication, Storm Stories will offer local affiliates the option of using their meteorologists for local weather and news updates, or they can stick with national Weather Channel host Jim Cantore.

20th Television‘s syndicated series Temptation has now been cleared in 96% of the country for a fall start, including all top 30 markets.  Among the clearances in the top markets are WWOR/New York, KCOP/LA, WPWR/Chicago, WTTA/Tampa, WSVN/Miami; KPLR/St. Louis; KCPQ and KMYQ/Seattle and WOIO/Cleveland.  Temptation is a remake of the old game show series Sale of the Century.

Among the celebrities participating in the upcoming syndicated series Jury Duty from Radar Entertainment are Ed Begley, Jr., Kevin Sorbo, Paula Poundstone, Todd Bridges and bunches of others, according to Hollywood Reporter. Thus far, the show has been cleared in 85% of the country and is schedule for a September 17 launch.

After a long battle with cancer, Kelly Polk, age 44, passed away in her sleep Saturday morning.  Kelly most recently worked as an Account Manager at WTVJ/Miami. I met Kelly at MMT Sales years ago, where she was a Sales Manager, and knew her as a brilliant woman with a wicked sense of humor, an untiring work ethic, who was also dedicated to family.  A service will be held in Miami, and some time later on this month or next, a second memorial service is planned in New Rochelle, NY, Kelly’s hometown.  Specific details will be posted here when the plans are finalized.  She is survived by her husband and family, Robert, Schuyler, Daryl, Reese and the Douglass Family.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Kevin Pollack will join the cast of CBS’ Shark in a recurring role as the new Los Angeles District Attorney, having beaten Jessica Devlin (Jeri Ryan) in the election.  That makes Pollack’s character Sabastian Stark’s new boss – Stark played by James Woods.  As for Jeri Ryan’s character, she will join the DA’s office.   And a new prosecutor joins the cast – Kevin Alejandro as William Lyons.

ABC‘s fall sitcom Cavemen, based on the Geico caveman commercials, has added Sam Huntington to star as Caveman Andy.  Andy is caveman Joel’s younger brother (played by Bill English).
