The teen-targeted web series Prom Queen can now be downloaded as a full-length movie, ad-free download exclusively on Amazon’s digital video download service, Amazon Unbox, under a deal between Amazon.com and Michael Eisner’s Vuguru and in conjunction with Big Fantastic. Prom Queen was initially launched this April 2007 on My Space as a series of eighty 90m episodes, with the final episode of the series debuting June 20. The new movie version of Prom Queen, which must run about 120-130 minutes, can be downloaded to own for $10 or for $4 fans can rent the movie for 30 days. Amazon Unbox video download service was launched in fall 2006.
Director Robert Zemeckis’ upcoming mixed live-action and CG adaptation of the epic poem, Beowulf, will be released domestically in IMAX 3D simultaneously with the movie’s regular movie theatre release on November 16, 2007. Penned by Neil Gaiman and Roger Avary, Beowulf, Paramount will distribute the picture to IMAX theaters domestically, and Warner Bros. will serve as the distributor internationally.
Boomerang starts at the very beginning this week with The Flagstones to The Flintstones, a 3.5 day programming marathon that will include all 166 episodes of The Flintstones series and the pilot, in chronologic order. The big event starts at 6a on Wednesday, July 4 with The Flagstones, the 1960 animated pilot for what would become The Flintstones, and runs through Saturday, July 7 at 5p. In addition, Boomerang VOD offerings in July also will go along with the Flagstone to Flintstones theme by offering several of the most popular episodes via a Flintstones Fourth of July tab for the VOD menu. The Flintstones premiered in primetime on ABC, September 30, 1960 at 8:30p.
Disney Channel’s original tween-targeted movie High School Musical 2, a follow-up the first TV movie of the same name, is scheduled to premiere in Southeast Asia on Sunday, September 9 (7:30p Singapore/Malaysia; 6:30p Indonesia time). From First Street Films and Salty Pictures, High School Musical 2 will debut on Disney Channel in the US on August 17, 2007 at 8p.
Canada’s Family Channel summer programming includes several premieres, including the debut of High School Musical 2 in Canada day-and-date with the world premiere on Disney Channel on August 17 at 8p. The channel will also televise High School Musical: The Concert on August 5 at 730p and season 3 of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. In September, Family Channel will premiere third seasons of Life with Derek and The Secret World of Benjamin Bear and a second season of The Emperor’s New School.
MARKETING/LICENSING
Warner Bros. Consumer Products has awarded Mattel, Inc., with the master toy license for complete DC Comics Universe of characters and properties. In addition to the rights to existing DC Comics characters/animation/movies, the multi-year pact provides Mattel with the rights to produce toys based on future DC Universe film and animation projects that are developed and produced during the term of the agreement. Mattel will support the DC Universe characters across all of its key brands including Hot Wheels, Radica, Fisher-Price, Tyco and Mattel Games. The financial terms of the deal were not released.
Pokemon USA, Inc. is set to release Pokemon Trading Card Game expansion, Pokemon TCG: Diamond & Pearl – Mysterious Treasures, on August 22. The expansion is comprised of 120+ cards, including 25 new Pokemon to collect, which will be available in two 60-card theme decks, Fortress and Skull Charge as well as in booster packs of ten cards each.

EXECUTIVE MOVES
Games Media Properties has tapped Keith Kane as SVP/Advertising Sales. Kane will be responsible for growing the advertising team, focusing on increasing advertising and sponsorship revenue, specifically relating to the company’s annual World Series of Video Games, Presented by Intel. Four of the events this year will air as 1-hour specials as part of the CBS Sports Spectacular. He will also work to expand Games Media’s online advertising network. Kane will report to James Green, CEO of Games Media. Previously, Kane toiled for Cdigix where he was VP and Chief Advertising and Marketing Officer; he also served as VP/Sales, Alloy Media & Marketing.
Bruno Schwobthaler has been upped to SVP/Sales & Business Development, Warner Bros. Consumer Products Europe/Middle East/Africa (WBCP EMEA). Schwobthaler will be responsible for managing the commercial agenda for the EMEA region, overseeing development and implementation of marketing, sales and retail plans for selected properties, and managing the regional development of new business initiatives, including negotiations and implementation. He will continue to report to Pilar Zulueta, SVP and GM, WBCP EMEA. Schwobthaler, who has been with WBCP for 10-years, has served as VP/Sales & Business Development and VP/Northern Europe among others.
