Good morning. It’s Monday, July 19, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Boomerang will premiere MGM’s Pink Panther and Pals, a version of the original The Pink Panther series, on Monday, July 19 at 7a.  Featuring three episodes in each show, the series sees the now teenaged Pink Panther return to his old ways with new adventures with his pals Ant & the Aardvark and bully Big Nose.  Following its debut, The Pink Panther and Pals will air weekdays on Boomerang ( www.boomerang.cartoonnetwork.com ).

MORE KIDS STUFF

Disney Media Distribution inks a cable TV deal in Hong Kong with Hong Kong Cable Television that will see the launch of Disney Channel and Playhouse Disney.  Both channels will initially be available as free channels through the end of July to current subscribers.  The Disney Channel for Hong Kong features localized content to appeal to kids in the region. Following this month subscribers can pay for the Disney Channel Package.  Both channels are already available in Hong Kong, Disney Channel via IPTV’s HKBN and Now TV, with Playhouse Disney also available on Now TV.

SLG Publishing ( www.slgpublishing.com ), a publisher of comic books, graphic novels and related merchandise, establishes SLG Works Consulting, a new publishing services company.  SLG Owner and President Dan Vado says SLG Works Consulting will offer both a set of a la carte services as well as a full-service option, that latter providing everything but the creative content.  Services being offered include promotional trailer production, producing music for trailers, print brokering and pre-press production and designing, and producing merchandise (e.g. t-shirts, statues), and consultation on shipping, storage and fulfillment.

MARKETING/LICENSING

Warner Home Video and Sesame Workshop, with the help of Elmo and Professor Grover, aim to get kids counting with the release of the new DVD, Preschool is Cool: Counting with Elmo, set for release on September 14, 2010.  The DVD title encourages and supports early math skills for preschoolers.

Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP), for DC Comics, and JCPenney launch Olympic gymnast Nastia Liukin‘s new Supergirl by Nastia collection with a five-market tour featuring Nastia, who will visit JCPenney stores.  Targeted to girls 4-12, the new apparel line, which will offer products from $20-$38, will be available exclusively at JCPenney ( www.jcp.com ) stores beginning tomorrow.  Supergirl by Nastia is designed to provide girls with messages of empowerment, creativity, strength, intelligence and independence, with the help of Supergirl and her S-Shield.  For the last four years, Warner Bros. has supported female athletes with the Supergirl Jam ( www.supergirljam.com ), an all girl sports competition and lifestyle and music event series.  In addition to her five-stop JCPenney Tour (NY, Chicago, Dallas, Glendale, and Orlando) Liukin will make a special appearance at the Supergirl Jam on August 22 in Venice Beach, CA.

Bluewater Productions looks to popstar Justin Bieber for a new issue of its Fame biographical comic book series.  Fame: Justin Bieber, a 32-page issue ($3.99), will be available at comic book stores and online retailers this October 2010.  Previous celebrities featured in the Fame comic book series include Lady Gaga, Robert Pattinson, Tyler Lautner and David Beckham.  Two new Fame issues hit the stands this month one focusing on Kristen Stewart and the other on Taylor Swift.

The Juno Company, a kid-centric music appreciation media company, will launch its new line of books this August beginning with the release of Juno’s Musical ABCs board book.  The book is narrated by Brooke Shields, who will also narrate three upcoming storybook CDs.  The new line is part of the company’s The One For All Program.  For a limited time consumers that purchase the new book can register to download a free audio version of the title from JunoBaby.com ( www.junobaby.com ).  As part of its partnership with the National Head Start Association, Juno Baby gives away a music education DVD to a child in need for every product it sells.

The U.S. Postal Service ( www.usps.com ) releases the Sunday Funnies First-Class ($.44-cent) stamps that celebrate comic strips, Archie, Beetle Bailey, Dennis the Menace, Garfield and Calvin and Hobbes.  The stamps were dedicated at The Ohio State University, which is home to the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum.

EXECUTIVE MOVES

Jeff Olsen is upped to the new position of VP/Adult Swim Digital and Games.  Olsen will continue to oversee AdultSwim.com ( www.adultswim.com ) as well as adding responsibilities for Adult Swim Games on iPhone and other digital platforms.  Based in Atlanta, Olsen reports to Paul Condolora, SVP/Digital, Turner Broadcasting System.  Olsen joined Turner a decade ago as member of Cartoon Network’s On-Air department, and moved over to Adult Swim in 2004 where he co-created the series Stroker & Hoop and served as Creative Director of AdultSwim.com and led the creation of Adult Swim Games.

Sanrio expands its senior management team with three new appointments, all of whom will be based at its headquarters in Torrance, CA.

  • Jill Koch is upped to VP/Brand Management and Marketing.  Responsible for the integrity and identity of Sanrio and its brands, Koch will also continue to oversee expansion of the company’s co-branding initiatives and other collaborative programs, as well as management of the PR and marketing.  She had been Sr. Director/Brand Management and Marketing.  She reports to President Janet Hsu.
  • Cindy Elfenbein is named to the newly created position of Executive Director/Retail Business Development.  She is looking to develop new business opportunities with retailers and create unique partnerships and promotions between licensees and retailers.  Elfenbein previously toiled for Sony Pictures Entertainment, DIC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Consumer Products.  She also reports to Hsu.
  • Linh Forse is promoted to Sr. Licensing Manager, managing licensing partners in the US, Canada and Mexico.  She will focus on expanding distribution in the Canadian marketing and developing licensing programs for emerging characters.  Forse, who had been Licensing Manager, will continue to report to Jennifer Campbell, VP/Licensing.
