In a statement issued early Friday evening, SAG leaders said they still want to negotiate the final offer given to them from the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers nearly two weeks ago. The AMPTP said their offer was indeed the last and best offer available, calling it a “take-it-or-leave-it proposition” which will not be enhanced further. Carol Lombardini, EVP/Business and Legal Affairs of AMPTP also said in statements released on Friday from last Thursdays meeting between the AMPTP and SAG leaders, that the offer in fact may be trimmed back if the economy continues to weaken. Transcripts from the meeting also quoted Lombardini saying to SAG’s negotiating committee, “It is important to be clear: What we gave you on June 30 was our final offer. It doesn’t get any better than that. That is the best deal you are going to achieve from us.” So far the AMPTP has not declared the situation an official impasse, which if confirmed by the National Labor Relations Board, would legally allow the studios to implement all or a portion of its final offer proposal.

Lifetime Television renewed Army Wives from ABC Studios for an 18-episode third season. The drama is currently in its second season airing Sunday nights at 10p.

Crash, the original drama series based on the Oscar winning movie of 2006, is set to debut on Starz on Friday, October 17 at 10p.  Co-produced by Lionsgate and Starz Entertainment, the series stars Dennis Hopper. Starz has ordered 13 episodes.

The second season debut of USA Network‘s Burn Notice drew 5.39 million viewers, and a 1.8/6 A18-49 rating, according to Nielsen.  Those numbers represent a 35% jump in total viewers over last year and a 20% increase in the key adult demo.

Tony Snow, 53, former White House press secretary and former Fox News Channel news anchor died on Saturday at Georgetown University Hospital of recurrent colon cancer. Tony spent 17 months as spokesman for President Bush and was known for his lively exchanges with reporters. He left his White House post, taking on his current position as commentator with CNN saying he needed to make more money than his government salary. Politics and journalism were interchangeable focal points of Tony’s career as he was a speech writer for President George H.W. Bush in the early 1990s, followed by working for the Washington Times as a conservative editorial writer and later as a syndicated columnist. These positions led him to be hired in 1996 by Fox News to the first host of Fox News Sunday. Tony is survived by his wife, Jill Ellen Walker and their three children: son, Robbie and daughters, Kendall and Kristi.

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY: After making all that fuss about bringing an offer, Yahoo spurned another proposal from Microsoft on Saturday, this one brought jointly with Carl Icahn as a 24 hour take-it-or-leave-it ploy. The deal called for a complex restructuring of the company that would have given Microsoft control of Yahoo’s search business and what was left to Icahn and his dissident slate of replacement board members. So in other words, they were asking Roy Bostock and Jerry Yang to sell off its most valuable asset then fire themselves. And Microsoft sent a man they view as a shameless corporate raider as the messenger. In its rejection letter Yahoo dismissed the proposal as “erratic and unpredictable” and questioned Mr. Icahn and his alternative board members’ ability to run the technology firm in the wake of such a fire sale. CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORYOn the heels of this weekend’s release of Warner/New Line/Walden remake of Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D, the next big 3D movie set to open this summer is Fly Me to the Moon on August 8.  From Summit Entertainment and distributed by nWave, Fly me to the Moon revolves around a group of houseflies that stow away on the NASA’s Apollo 11 mission and features the voices of astronaut Buzz Aldrin as himself, and actors including Christopher Lloyd, Tim Curry, Ed Begley Jr. among many others.  Fly Me to the Moon is the first made-for-3D animated feature film, and will be release only in 3D and IMAX.  Charlotte Huggins serves as a producer on both movies.
