CYNTHIA TURNER’S
Cynopsis

07/11/05

Good morning.  It’s Monday, July 11, 2005, and this is your first early morning briefing.

After almost two years of slings and arrows, it appears former Disney executives/members of the Board of Directors Roy Disney and Stanley Gold and The Disney Company have reached a mutually satisfactory resolution.  In a joint announcement released on Friday, The Disney Company, Roy Disney and Stanley Gold stated that both sides, “… have agreed to put aside the differences that have characterized their relationship over the past several years.”  Furthermore the statement outlined the terms of the peace deal including that Roy Disney and Gold “… have agreed not to run a rival slate of directors or submit shareholder resolutions for the next five years.  Messrs. Disney and Gold have also agreed to dismiss all their pending lawsuits against the Company.”  Additionally, “The Company also reaffirmed its commitment to the rotation of committee members and chairpersons on its Board committees as currently required by the Company’s Corporate Governance Guidelines.”  Roy Disney has in turn been named Director Emeritus and consultant.  And finally, both Roy Disney and Gold gave Robert Iger their vote of confidence, while simultaneously acknowledging Michael Eisner’s contributions to the company during his 21-yrs at the company.  Next up for the Disney Company executives, a scheduled scheduled live webcast of the company’s 3Q 2005 financial results on Tuesday, August 9, at 4p. Tonight’s Premieres:
CBS:  Rock Star: INXS at 9p

For WB affiliates, ER will join the WB Weekday afternoon block at 3p (a Warner Bros. TV Domestic Dist product), while 8 Simple Rules (acquired from Buena Vista Television) will air two back to back eps from 4-5, beginning in in January 2005, according to Broadcasting & Cable.  ER is scheduled to run within the block from January to September only.  8 Simple Rules may well also come off in September, depending on its performance, as WB has Reba  (from 20th Television) waiting in the wings for the 4-5p hour.

SoapNet has picked up the off-net rights to the limited series Pasadena (distributed by Sony Pictures Televi9sion), running for just a few short weeks on the Fox network back in 2001.  Of the 13 eps available, nine have never been seen.  SoapNet paid in the $150k/episode neighborhood for the primetime soap, which stars Dana Delany and Alison Lohman.

ABC Family will premiere its newest reality series Kicked Out on August 25 at 10p.  In this show, parents decides one of children really needs to get their own life and move on … and out.  The target sponge kid, has 10 days to get their lives together, get a job, and furnish a new apartment.

* NEW ORDERS / DEVELOPMENT / PRODUCTION *

National Geographic Channel is currently in production with a four hour miniseries/documentary called Inside 9/11, scheduled to air over two nights – Sunday, August 21, and Monday, August 22, at 9p.  The program will follow the timeline of the attacks, deconstructing events of the date, and tracking the movements of the four terrorist teams. Information for this miniseries draws from declassified documents from the 9/11 Commission Investigation, as well as 60+ interviews with experts, whistle blowers, investigators and survivors, and eyewitness materials including footage culled from a rarely seen 400-hour archive; and audio recordings from on board the doomed planes and inside air traffic control.

Fox:

  • Killer Instinct (fka Deviant Behavior) (Regency TV/20th):  Kristin Lehman has been cast as the female lead opposite Johnny Messner, as a female detective investigating bizarre crimes.  Lehman replaces Marguerite Moreau whose character will be quickly moved aside after the pilot episode.

Development Deals:

  • Sony Pictures Television has signed 2 year deals with Frank von Zernack and Robert M. Sertner (Zernack/Sertner Films formed in 1987), to create and develop long form movies for television.  Various titles to their name include Locusts (2005), Spring Break Shark Attack (2005), Reversible Errors (2004) and The Elizabeth Smart Story (2003) among numerous others.

The History Channel
presents This Day in History:
1804-Former Vice President Aaron Burr shot and killed longtime political rival Alexander Hamilton in a now famous duel.  Burr had lost a campaign for the governorship of New York earlier that year, a loss he attributed to the slanderous remarks of Federalist and founding father Hamilton.  Hamilton’s son Philip had met a similar fate when he was killed in a duel at the same location in Weehawken, New Jersey, three years earlier.

Today’s Trivia Question:
This Schwarzenegger box office film was protested by The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee at a Washington theatre, calling for a boycott of the movie.
