Cynopsis: Kids!
01/25/10

Good morning. It’s Monday, January 25, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Mexico’s Hi-tv, a new free-to-air digital multi-channel system, enters into a program acquisitions deal with Cookie Jar Entertainment, which includes 1,200 library titles.  Cookie Jar Entertainment series that will be available in the new platform include Arthur, Mona the Vampire, Sabrina: the Animated Series and Dino Squad.  Hi-tv will also offer a range of Cookie Jar series that have never aired in Mexico before.  Hi-tv is a business unit of Grupo Salinas.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Neil Gaiman (Coraline, The Sandman, Stardust) reports that the movie adaptation of his book The Graveyard Book is not set up at Miramax any longer, per an interview with the author in the LA Times.  The movie was to be written/directed by Neil Jordan (The Crying Game, Interview with the Vampire).  However, Gaiman says that isn’t the end of the movie, “But it looks like almost all the pieces are on the table again.  They have a studio, they have a distributor and they are putting stuff together and I’m not allowed to anything else.” So … stayed tuned.

MORE KIDS STUFF

KidsCo acquires the animated adventure and environmentally centric series The Beach Crew (18×5) from Australia-based The Beach Crew Productions, per Rapid TV News.  The series is set to join the KidsCo lineup in Australia and South East Asia beginning June 2010.  The Beach Crew revolves around a group of beach characters and accessories, including Billy Boogie, Sammy Surfboard and Mini Malibu, who aim to protect their beach from evildoers.  KidsCo is a joint venture between NBC Universal, Cookie Jar Entertainment and Corus Entertainment.

MARKETING/LICENSING

Fox Home Entertainment will release the stop-motion animated movie Fantastic Mr. Fox as a Blu-ray and DVD combo pack and on DVD on March 23.  The release features extras including a ‘making of’ feature, a beginner’s guide to Whack-Bat, puppet animation among other things.  Based on Roald Dahl’s book of the same name, the movie is directed by Wes Anderson and stars George Clooney, Meryl Streep, and Jason Schwartzman.

Konami Digital Entertainment and Cartoon Network Enterprises (CNE) announce that Ben 10 Alien Force: The Rise of Hex will be available in Q1 2010 on Microsoft’s Xbox Live Arcade for Xbox 360 and Nintendo’s WiiWare service.
