Good morning. It’s Monday, February 21, 2005, and this is your first early morning briefing on President’s Day, a holiday for many of you.. CBS won the night on Thursday in the final numbers from Nielsen Media Research with an overall 9.0/22 A18-49 rating, ahead of NBC’s 6.6/17. The other nets fell by the wayside in comparison: ABC 2.6/7, Fox 2.5/6, UPN 2.0/5, WB .9/2. At 8pm Survivor pulled a 9.1/23 demo rating, with 23.7 million viewers. CSI charged over The Apprentice at 9pm with a 10.9/26 rtg, The Apprentice managed a 7.2/17. ER picked up the ball and ran at 10p, posting an 8.5/21, ahead of CBS’ Without a Trace 6.9/17. Primetime Live’s 2-hour presentation focusing on Michael Jackson averaged a 3.0/7. NBC led on Friday night with an overall 3.2/9 A18-49 according to fast affiliate ratings from Nielsen Media Research. NBC won or tied every hour of prime, with all original programming. ABC was #2 for the night with a 2.8/8, followed by CBS 2.3/7, Fox 1.8/6, WB 1.4/4, UPN 0.9/3. A5 8pm NBC’s Dateline delivered a 2.7/9, slightly ahead of ABC’s back to back 8 Simple Rules (2.4/8) and Fox’s back to back Bernie Mac (2.2/7). At 9p NBC and ABC virtually tied, with NBC’s 3.0/9 for Third Watch, a tenth over ABC’s 2.9/9 for Hope & Faith/Less Than Perfect. And this week NBC’s freshman series Medical Investigation pulled in front of CBS’ midseason replacement, NUMB3RS, which also tied ABC’s 20/20 — NBC 3.7/11, CBS and ABC tied at 3.0/9. ABC grabbed the win on Saturday night with a airing of the Tom Hanks film The Green Mile delivering an overall 3.0/9 A18-49 rating for the night in fast affiliate numbers from Nielsen Media Research. Casting / Development / Production:
CNN’s Headline News will undergo some prime access & primetime changes beginning tonight. At 7pm, Karyn Bryant and AJ Hammer host Showbiz Tonight, covering all the headlines in the world of showbiz, competing head to head with several syndicated entertainment magazine series. Nancy Grace at 8p focuses on the legal world, billed as the ‘only justice-themed/interview/debate show, designed for those interested in the top law stories of the day.’ 9pm will feature a standard newscast, Prime News Tonight, with national news coverage, with hosts Mike Galanos and Erica Hill. On March 6 at 1p, Fine Living TV Network will launch a new series called Auction Adventure with host Michael Eldridge. The show goes behind the scenes at several of the world’s most prestigious auction houses, with up close and personal stories about some of the most famous and historical pieces that have been bought and sold – from jewelry to dinosaur bones. Weekend Box Office Estimates: February 18-20, 2005 Sandra Dee, child and teen actress, died yesterday at a hospital in California from complications of kidney disease and pneumonia. She was 63. Dee will perhaps be best remember for two key roles she played as a teenager – she was the original film Gidget, and she was one of actresses to play Tammy Tyree in two Tammy films (taking over for Debbie Reynolds). Dee also played opposite Troy Donahue (then heartthrob) in the older teen angst drama, A Summer Place. Dee was married to Bobby Darin, and together they appeared in three films: Come September (1961), If A Man Answers (1962), and That Funny Feeling (1965). If you don’t remember any of those films, or even Sandra Dee herself, no doubt you are familiar with the song from Grease, Look at Me – I’m Sandra Dee. The lead female character in Grease was originally patterned after Dee. Thursday, February 17, 2005. FINAL Ratings for all Networks – program averages. Source: Nielsen Media Research.
