Good morning. It’s Monday, December 17, 2007, and this is your first early morning briefing.
Hey guess who really bought J.K. Rowling’s The Tales of Beedle the Bard for upwards of $4 million last week? While the handwritten/illustrated book, said to have been purchased by London-based art-deal Hazlitt, Gooden and Fox, the firm was in fact doing the bidding on behalf of Amazon.com. The good news is that the money will to Rowling’s The children’s Voice charity.
NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
Director Peter Jackson will direct at least one of the upcoming pictures in the Tintin movie trilogy, with Steven Spielberg to direct at least one of the remaining two pictures, per Variety. Jackson will team with motion-capture actor Andy Serkis (he was Gollum in Jackson’s adaptation of The lord of the Rings) to work on the DreamWorks adaptation of Tintin. While there is no official word on which role(s) Serkis will take on for the project, the general consensus according to the report is he’ll play Capt. Haddock, a volatile sea captain.
