More Nikki Maxwell is on the way as Aladdin, an imprint of Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing, unveils plans to publish the seventh and eighth books in the popular Dork Diaries series by Rachel Renee Russell in the summers of 2014 and 2015 respectively. Aladdin is already set to publish Dork Diaries 6: Tales from a Not-So-Happy Heartbreaker in June 2013, followed by a Dork Diaries interactive journal in October 2013. Additionally, JLK Brand Licensing Group announced that Pressman Toys will release the first licensed Dork Diaries product in spring 2013, including the Dork Diaries Not-So-Truth-Telling Game. JLK Brand will work with licensees to debut further Dork Diaries product, focusing on youth products, accessories, room decor, and other tween-centric categories. There are currently 8+ million copies of Dork Diaries books in print.
Columbia looks to Zach Helm (Stranger Than Fiction, Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, which he also directed, and the upcoming The Secret Life of Walter Mitty) to write a new big screen adaptation of Jumanji, based on Chris van Allsburg’s 1981 book of the same name, per THR. Matt Tolmach (The Amazing Spider-Man) will produce the new Jumanji movie. Joe Johnston directed the 1995 feature film incarnation of Jumanji, which starred Robin Williams and Kirsten Dunst.

Studio 100 appoints new licensing agents for the Maya the Bee property in Turkey, the Middle East and South Korea. The new CGI animated series incarnation of May the Bee (78×13) from Studio100 can already be seen in France, Benelux and Italy and is set to air around the world beginning in 2013. In Turkey, Sinerji has been named to ink new business and establish a licensing program, and has already signed six partners across the toy and game, housewares and publishing categories. Maya the Bee products are set to debut in Turkey in 2013. East-West Licensing signs on to develop a licensing effort for the property in the Middle East, where the new CGI series will air on Al Jazeera in 2013, followed by the release of a toy line. Finally, in South Korea, Joon International, which has a network of 300+ licensees in Korea across all consumer product categories, has been appointed to represent the Maya property in the market.
DHX Media‘s Yo Gabba Gabba! partners with beverage company Y Water to launch the new Kids 50 (www.kids-50.com). A natural juice that will contain “half the sugar and calories of regular juice,” Kids 50 will be available in packs of six juice boxes at select retailers from January 2013, with packaging featuring the Yo Gabba Gabba characters. Kids 50 will debut with four flavors, Brobee’s Goofy Apple, Muno’s Fruit Punch, Foofa’s Pink Lemonade, and Break It Down Berry. Each 40-calorie juice box blends apples, carrots and acerola berries with water and the sweetener Stevia.
Warner Bros. Consumer Products and Feld Motor Sports team to drive Scooby-Doo into the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam (www.monsterjam.com) in 2013, which kicks off in early January. The Scooby-Doo truck will tour and compete nationwide alongside Warner Bros. other Monster Jam trucks including, Superman and Batman. The Scooby-Doo Monster Jam truck will be driven by noted Monster Jam driver Nicole Johnson.

Blinkbox, The UK-based Tesco-owned VOD service, adds kid/family aimed TV programming under new content deals with eOne, Aardman Animations, Lionsgate and DHX Media’s Cookie Jar. The new programs, such as Peppa Pig (eOne), Shaun the Sheep (Aardman), The Adventures of Paddington Bear and Johnny Test (both DHX/Cookie Jar), and Poppy Cat (Lionsgate), will be accessible via various connected devices, such as tablets, TVs, Xbox 360, PlayStation3, Blu-ray players, set top boxes and both PCs and Macs.
Nerd Corps Entertainment will release Slug it Out! (www.slugitout.com), a new game app based on the animated TV series Slugterra, for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch this Thursday, December 13, 2012 in the US and Canada. In the game players head to the underground world of Slugterra, where Eli Shane must collect little slug creatures and use them to battle a gaggle of villains, and stop the evil Dr. Blakk. Each slug has its own unique powers and transforms into a powerful battle beast when fired from a blaster. Slugterra can be seen on Disney XD. Jakks Pacific will debut its Slugterra toy line in spring 2013. Additionally, several other key Slugterra licensees will roll out merchandise beginning in 2013.
Shout! Factory acquires the multi-platform US distribution rights to director Bibo Bergeron‘s (Shark Tale) original CG-animated feature A Monster in Paris and director/producer Luc Besson‘s The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec, from European studio and producer of both movies, EuropaCorp. Under the new deal, Shout! Factory takes the US rights to both movies for home entertainment, digital distribution and broadcast for cross-platform releases. Shout! Factory will rollout A Monster in Paris and The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec on all packaged media, electronic-sell-through, VOD, SVOD and TV. A Monster in Paris is set to release for the US home entertainment market and a range of digital platforms from early 2013. A Monster in Paris is a production of EuropaCorp, Bibo Films, France 3 Cinema and Walking The Dog.
Lionsgate Home Entertainment will release two Saban Brands‘ Power Rangers DVDs, Power Rangers Samurai: A Team Divided Volume 3 and Power Rangers Super Samurai: Rise of the BullZooka Volume 3, on January 15, 2012. Each title will be available for the first time for $14.98.
