In an 8-K filing on Friday, Discovery Communications said it will increase its funding investment for OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network set to launch on January 1, 2011. Discovery’s commitment will bump to $189 million up from the previous amount of $100 million. The revised agreement also pertains to Oprah Winfrey’s on-air involvement which will now include her hosting or starring in a show on OWN. Previously, Discovery indicated Winfrey would be featured in a primetime travel series, Oprah’s Next Chapter airing two to three times per week premiering late in 2011. Discovery’s added funding for OWN will be a revolving loan direct from the company and/or debt financing from a third-party lender to OWN, based on the 8-K. The filing also said OWN will be allowed to pursue distribution in the UK and Canada.

UK-based production company All3Media announced on Friday it will acquire the UK-based independent company Optomen. The deal also includes One Potato Two Potato, the 50/50 joint production company owned by both Optomen and Gordon Ramsay, behind such shows starring Ramsay as The F Word and Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares. Now as part of All3Media, Ramsay may become more of a TV presence in the US and his shows can take advantage of larger distribution and licensing operations.

Victor Webster (Melrose Place 2.0, Charmed) will next appear as a recurring character on ABC’s Castle playing, Josh Davidson, per EW. Webster’s Josh is a new love interest for Beckett (Stana Katic). Also joining the cast is Ken Baumann (ABC Family’s The Secret Life of the American Teenager) as a love interest for Molly Quinn.

Andrea Savage (Dinner for Schmucks) will be part of FX’s pilot adaptation of the Australian comedy Wilfred, reports Variety. Savage will co-star with Elijah Wood and Jason Gann. Production on the pilot is happening this summer.

Casting Call: World of Wonder Productions, behind such shows as Bravo’s Million Dollar Listing and Oxygen’s Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood, is working with a major cable network to develop a new TV show that would reunite high school musical students for a another shot at stardom on stage. The show is looking for men and women who graduated from high school at least 10 years ago and were part of their school’s musical theater program. Thursday  A18-49 Analysis: FOX danced to first place Thursday night with a 2.3/7 among A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. CBS won the 8p hour with Big Brother at 2.4/8 while FOX’s So You Think You Can Dance season finale and UNIV’s Hasta que el Dinero Nos Separe tied for #2 at 2.1/7 each. The second hour of FOX’s So You Think You Can Dance conclusion did best at 9p with a 2.6/8 followed by UNIV’s Soy Tu Duena at 2.4/7. CBS ended the night a winner again with an encore of The Mentalist at 1.3/4 and ABC’s Boston Med and NBC’s Law & Order: SVU repeat shared second place at 1.1/3 apiece.
