CYNOPSISKIDS!

Good morning. It’s Wednesday, April 9, 2014, and this is your first early morning briefing.
Hub Network has entered the mobile age. The network today will announce its first app, loaded with complete eps of Hub shows including My Little Pony, Littlest Pet Shop and Transformers Prime, plus short-form content, games and activities like a photo booth feature where users can get "photo-bombed" by their favorite Hub character. It’s free in the iTunes App Store, and the launch dovetails with the net’s newly enhanced website, renamed HubNetwork.com.
The site now sports a tablet-friendly responsive design and new features like the "Family Hub," a customizable area where families can submit artwork, photos and videos that may just find their way on TV. The My Codes section on the app will rotate TV content monthly and enables user to unlock stickers online to use in the app photo booth. It’s all about cross-platform connectedness, says CMO Dena Kaplan, and generating 360-degree fun and engagement.
In-house research showing kids want ease of use but also unexpected elements led to the creation of "fun little buttons–gems of surprise and delight" on the app, Kendall Doty, Hub exec director of digital content and cross-platform entertainment, tells CynKids. "You can shake the tablet and it will randomize. And if you just want to go in and watch a show, that’s easy to do, too."
Although the network’s previous site began running ads in Q1 2013, sponsorship opportunities are greatly expanded on the new site, Kaplan says. The app is not currently not ad-supported. "We really want it to keep it ad-free at this point to get kids and parents engaged with it. Down the road as we add more to the app-like more native games–we may make more off-channel investment," she says.
Industry PR firm Child’s Play Communications is launching CPC Tech, a new division devoted exclusively to creating awareness of and demand for family-friendly technology products. "We’ve been handling so many child- and parent-focused tech products recently, we’ve decided to launch a group entirely devoted to that category," says company president Stephanie Azzarone. Recent clients have included the Time for Kids app from Time Inc., multiple Peppa Pig apps, littleBits, a system of electronic modules that snap together with magnets to create circuits, and the smartphone-driven personal robot, ROMO, from Romotive.

||| CLICK HERE TO ENTER.Steven Universe, a hit on Cartoon Network in the States and other locales, will make its Teletoon debut in Canada on Thursday, April 24 at 6:30p as part of the net’s Can’t "Can’t Miss Thursdays" programming block. Created by Emmy- and Annie Award-nominated writer and storyboard artist Rebecca Sugar (Adventure Time), the series was inspired by Sugar’s own brother, who in the show is the ultimate "little brother" to a team of magical guardians of humanity- the Crystal Gems.
Big Bird and friends are flying into the digital space, with a new video subscription platform called Sesame Go. CMO Today reports that the platform will cost $3.99 a month or $29.99 a year, and offer current season episodes, past episodes and shortened 30-minute episodes for parents looking to limit how much a child watches. Although some of the show’s eps are on Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, YouTube and the PBS Kids app, Worldwide Media Distribution for Sesame Workshop SVP Scott Chambers said the platform is not a precursor to becoming a stand-alone online cable channel.
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment launched Lego Friends on the Nintendo DS platform, adding to its Nintendo family. The game is already available for Nintendo 3DS. Players can meet new Lego friends and immerse themselves in activities including competing in horse riding shows, taking photos for the local newspaper and mastering karate skills.
