Cynopsis: Kids!
09/07/12
Good morning. It’s Friday, September 7, 2012, and this is your first early morning briefing.
Nickelodeon and the National Football League (NFL) further their relationship by entering into a co-production deal for NFL Rush Zone: Season of the Guardians, an original half-hour animated series. The full-length second installment of the Nicktoons series (24×30), based on NFL Rush Zone, the NFL’s kid-targeted online world www.nflrush.com, is set to premiere on Nicktoons this November 2012. The series follows kid Ishmael (Ish) and his friends on a journey to protect the league’s 32 teams and the world from a master evildoer. Each episode will feature various NFL players and coaches voicing their animated personas, including New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson, Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware, and New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan. Additionally, Nicktoons and the NFL will produce exclusive weekly video segments with NFL Network analyst and Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders. The segments will premiere on Nicktoons following Sunday’s NFL action, and feature Sanders’ top three plays from games played that week. NFL Rush Zone: Season of the Guardians will be accessible on Nicktoons.com and NFLRush.com following each episode’s on-air premiere. They will also be re-aired on NFL Network and produced in HD for use on video boards in NFL stadiums nationwide. NFL Rush Zone: Season of the Guardians is produced by Rollman Entertainment, led by CEO Eric Rollman, who previously served as president of Marvel Animation. Nickelodeon and the NFL first teamed in 2010 for the short-form series Rush Zone: Guardians of the Core (a 22 episode micro-series).
Canada’s Corus Entertainment has invested in San Francisco-based Fingerprint Digital, a mobile gaming startup that creates gaming for kids, to grow and expand the Fingerprint Play learning and entertainment platform. Corus will serve as a lead investor for Fingerprint, though no financial terms were announced. Launched in 2011, the Fingerprint Play platform is available on iOS and currently offers 14 interactive apps, which have been played 20+ million minutes. With Corus’ new investment, Fingerprint Play plans to expand to Android devices and add eight new gaming apps by the end of 2012.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
FilmNation Entertainment acquires the feature film rights to the popular kid’s book A Tale Dark & Grimm by author Adam Gidwitz. FilmNation is partnering with Marissa McMahon of Kamala Films to finance the development and produce the live-action movie with FilmNation Entertainment’s Aaron Ryder and Karen Lunder. Jon Gunn (Mercy Streets, My Date with Drew) and John W. Mann (Mercy Streets) will pen the screenplay. Based on some of the more gruesome Grimm Brother’s stories, A Tale Dark & Grimm follows the adventures of two unsuspecting kids who hold the key to breaking out of the dark ages. McMahon explains, “Gidwitz’s A Tale Dark & Grimm is a smart, addictive, and hilariously gruesome narrative that turns familiar fairy tales on their head, much to the delight of both children and parents.” FilmNation recently completed filming on the new teen-targeted comedy Premature, which they are producing from writer/director Dan Beers.
