CYNTHIA TURNER’S
Cynopsis

09/02/05

Good morning.  It’s Friday, September 2, 2005, and this is your first early morning briefing.

ABC‘s new fall series Invasion begins with a massive hurricane in Florida.  The storm is apparently a diversion to mask the invasion of some sort of alien life. Yesterday it was reported ABC does not plan to edit the show, but late yesterday ABC said for ‘sensitivity reasons’ it would pull the promos.  And it is also a possibility the show may be delayed beyond its scheduled September 21 premiere date, but for right now, its on schedule.

As you probably know, NBC telethon to raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Katrina is scheduled for this evening.  The multi-network telethon originally looking to air next Tuesday or Wednesday, will likely be pushed back to later in the week.  Variety reports the networks are finding it difficulty to gather all the resources needed for such a large endeavor (phone lines, etc.) so quickly after the Labor Day weekend.  Look for this telethon to air later in the week, perhaps next Friday.

Covering the ravages of Hurricane Katrina, this past Wednesday night Fox News averaged 4.9 million viewers, setting a new high for the calendar year to date. CNN had 3.6 million viewers, and MSNBC had 1.5 million, per MultiChannel News.  The Sunday-Wednesday average for Fox News for total day is 2.1 million households (households now, not viewers), CNN 1.5m HH and MSNBC 572,000 HH. In primetime for hte same Sun-Wed period, Fox News averaged 3.1m HH, CNN 2.5m HH and MSNBC 988,000 HH.

An extra issue of Cynopsis will be published early next week providing you with a contact list of national and local Gulf Coast charities where you can donate cash, clothes, food, blankets, gift cards, etc. If your company has set up a particular charity or is planning a relief fund event to which Cynopsis readers may choose to contribute, let us know.  We will also publish as many bonafide relative search / info websites as we can find for those trying to reach family or gain information about family members in the affected areas.

* MORE GOOD STUFF *CBS is moving further down the podcast road with the creation of CBS Netcast, a website to download podcasts of various CBS programs and original CBS.com content. CBS Netcast will officially launch on Tuesday, September 6 with the podcast of the entire audio episode of Guiding Light, available for download by 6pm.  Other content to be offered includes the Big Brother online talk show House Calls, online talk show Soap Box, and upcoming CBS.com shows including Survivor Live. Down the road, CBS will also podcast various primetime series.

Three NBC owned cable networks will give extra plays of series premiere episodes later on this month, following the NBC broadcast premiere.  Bravo will air My Name is Earl (9/25) and The Office (9/29) as well as Inconceivable (9/30). Sci Fi will re-air multiple Surface episodes, beginning 9/20. And USA will re-air E-Ring (9/24) and Three Wishes (9/28). Additionally, CNBC will repurpose the series The Apprentice: Martha Stewart starting 9/22 and will continue to air the show weekly on Thursdays at 8p.

On Tuesday September 13, at 1030p MTV will launch its newest reality series, aptly titled The Reality Show.  MTV has ordered up 10 episodes featuring contestants who believe their lives would make an interesting reality series.  The ultimately winner will get his own 6-ep reality show starring him or herself, family and friends.

Q Television Network will debut its newest a.m. talk show on September 6.  The 2-hour Brunch will be hosted by Queer Eye for the Straight Girl’s star, Honey Labrador, and QTN’s Scott Wither.  The live, interactive show will delve into the celeb, news, sports, fashion and weather updates of the day. The show will, of course, include more of a gay/lesbian viewpoint on the issues and news discussed in the show and their effects on the GLBT community.

Certainly we will always endeavor to cover the major stories on any and all networks – this survey won’t change that.  The whole thing shouldn’t take more than a couple of minutes – so if you please: Survey click here

Friday Fun Fact:
The giant squid is the largest creature without a backbone. It weighs up to 2.5 tons and grows up to 55 feet long. Each eye is a foot or more in diameter.

The History Channel presents This Day in History:
1945- Aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay, Japan formally surrenders to the Allies, bringing an end to World War II.  By the summer of 1945, the defeat of Japan was a foregone conclusion.  The Japanese navy and air force were destroyed.  The Allied naval blockade of Japan and intensive bombing of Japanese cities had left the country and its economy devastated.  At the end of June, the Americans captured Okinawa, a Japanese island from which the Allies could launch an invasion of the main Japanese home islands.  U.S. General Douglas MacArthur was put in charge of the invasion, which was code-named “Operation Olympic” and set for November 1945.
