Cynopsis: Kids!
09/28/12
Good morning. It’s Friday, September 28, 2012, and this is your first early morning briefing.
This week marks the launch of StoryBots (www.storybots.com), a multi-platform storytelling entertainment property targeted to kids and parents, created by brothers (and dads) Evan and Gregg Spiridellis and co-creators of JibJab. The StoryBots are curious little creatures who live in the world beneath our many screens (iPhones, iPads, computers, TVs) and are on a mission to make learning fun for kids – and life easier for parents via personalized eBooks, videos and activity sheets, among other things. StoryBots uses JibJab’s Starring You technology to allow parents to upload a photo of their kid and insert him/her into the center of a story. Offerings that allow parents to place their kid(s) in include StoryBots Starring You StoryBooks – the year-old free iPad app (it comes with one free book and then $3.99/book a month, with additional titles $1.99); StoryBots Starring You Band – a free web video series – there are four free videos so far with one set to debut each month; StoryBots ABC Jamboree – a collection of 26 free one-minute, music videos designed to help kids recognize the sounds and shapes of the letters of the alphabet, which can be download; StoryBots Activity Center – where parents can download and print 100+ free coloring, tracing, mazes and word finds; and the StoryBots Beep & Boop iPhone app.
Technicolor enters into a deal with Canada’s Mercury Filmworks to co-develop and co-produce the new 2D animated kid’s TV series, Atomic Puppet (52×11). Currently in development, Technicolor and Mercury Filmworks will offer the boy 6-11 targeted Atomic Puppet series to international buyers at Mipcom 2012 in Cannes. The series is based on a concept created by Mark Drop and Jerry Leibowitz. Set in Model City, Atomic Puppet follows the city’s superhero Captain Atomic who is transformed into a powerless puppet by his disgruntled sidekick. When our hero’s powers are accidentally transferred to his biggest fan, 12-year old Joey, the two form an awkward and humorous partnership as they try to become the city’s greatest superhero duo.
