Cyn opsis: Kids!
09/01/06
Good morning. It’s Friday, September 1, 2006 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing.
This week marks the launch of Aardman Animations’ mobile TV channel, called Aardman Animations, in the UK on the Orange TV service. The Aardman Animations channel will include animated content, some of its own as well as animation from other outlets around the world, which will be updated each week. Aardman also plans to launch its channel with other mobile operators within the UK soon, with other countries/territories to follow. Crucible Media, an agent, crafted the agreement between Aardman and Orange.
NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
Starz has launched The Wood, a series of original, tongue-in-cheek, animated shorts that features six Hollywood “cele-bear-ties,” each embodying a different celebrity persona, from the young ingénue to the aging legend. Created and produced by 23d Films, a design, motion graphics and animation studio, The Wood features a combination traditional hand-drawn animation mixed with digital techniques that results in an effect that looks like both 2D and 3D together. A second group of The Wood shorts is slated to bow on Starz beginning this September. The Wood is not for kids.
MORE KIDS STUFF

It is also shown on France 3 and TV3. Co-produced by Icon with Millimages, France 3, TV Catalunya and ETB, Lola & Virginia is based on an original concept by Myriam Ballesteros, Co-Founder of Icon, with Sergi Reitg. Icon holds all distribution rights worldwide except for France, French speaking Switzerland, Benelux, the UK, Ireland, Iceland, Australia and New Zealand which are held by Millimages.
MARKETING/LICENSING
Electronic Arts joins the world of in-game advertising by inking deals with IGA Worldwide Inc. and Massive Incorporated, both providers of in-game ads. Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed. Under the pact with IGA, a number of EA games will be integrated into IGA’s global ad network, the first of which will be Battlefield 2142. Massive will sell in-game ads or a number of EA game titles for Xbox 360, beginning with EA’s Need For Speed Carbon. Massive is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Microsoft
McDonald’s and Nintendo have joined together to offer outdoor toys based on Mario, the video game character, in Happy Meals and Mighty Kids Meals. Beginning today and running through September 21, 2006 six different ‘active’ Mario toys will be available in Happy Meals and Mighty Kids Meals. As part of McDonald’s and Nintendo’s Take the Mario Challenge initiative, the toys are designed to encourage kids to get up and get active and each comes with a series of active challenges, with additional Mario challenges available online (http://www.happymeal.com).

Friday Fun Fact: “Q” is the only letter in the alphabet not appearing in the name of any U.S. state.
Answer to Yesterday’s Trivia Question: What non-human TV character said: “If you love something, let it go. If it comes back to you, it’s yours. If it’s run over by a car, you don’t want it.” ALF OF COURSE! Kudos to: Cassel Kroll-The Lexicomm Group/NY; Jim Salicrup-Papercutz/NY; Justin Dickerson-NBC Universal/Burbank
Today’s Trivia Question: If you drank this potion and smoke streamed from your collar, your face flickered black and white like an X-Ray and you yell like Tarzan, what potion are your drinking? Here’s a hint – if you don’t move the potion to a glass container soon enough, it will eat right through the cast iron kettle. ( click here with your answer and be sure to include your name, company, city and time zone. Unofficial rules: Only the second four correct answers from each time zone will be mentioned; and once you’ve been mentioned in any of the Cynopsis editions, you can’t be mentioned again that calendar week.)
