Cynopsis: Kids!
09/14/12

Good morning. It’s Friday, September 14, 2012, and this is your first early morning briefing.

Bento Box Entertainment (BBE) and National Geographic Kids (NG Kids) enter into a two-year deal to co-manage and program a new three-hour E/I (educational/informational) FCC compliant Saturday morning block of Spanish-language programming on the new US broadcast network, MundoFox. The new block will be branded National Geographic Kids. NG Kids will provide 70+ hours of Spanish-language programming and its creative team will be involved in the block. BBE will bring project development, production services and creative direction to the deal. BBE’s artists and animators have produced such shows including Bob’s Burgers (Fox), the upcoming Brickleberry (Comedy Central) and The Awesomes (Hulu).

Opening in movie theaters nationwide today is the re-release of Disney-Pixar’s feature film Finding Nemo in 3D. Running ahead of the movie in theaters will feature the new Toy Story Toon titled Partysaurus Rex. Directed by Mark Walsh, the short features Rex, the insecure and kind of neurotic T-Rex toy voiced by Wallace Shawn, as finds his inner soapy strength and new persona when Bonnie, his new owner, takes him into a bubble bath with some of her other toys.

LICENSING

Ruckus Media Group and NCircle Entertainment ink a new deal, under which Ruckus will offer digital downloads of NCircle DVDs in mobile markets in both the US and Canada beginning in late 2012. All Ruckus videos are commercial-free and will be airplay-enabled, allowing users to view them via Apple TV as well as all iOS devices (including iOS6). Included in the launch are six properties from NCircle’s library of shows: PBS’ The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That! and Sid the Science Kid; Pajanimals and The Wiggles, which air on NBC Kids; Dino Dan, airing on Nick Jr.; and Richard Scarry’s Busytown Mysteries. Ruckus distributed titles will download directly to mobile devices in full, allowing kids to view them without being tethered to wi-fi. Downloadable video is a key element of the company’s upcoming Ruckus 2.0, due later this year.

The Collective inks a licensing deal for the Annoying Orange (http://www.annoyingorange.com) with A&A Global Industries, a domestic supplier of licensed vending novelties and products. The new collection will include foam balls, mini puppets, blow-up balls, stickers, and temporary tattoos available at a variety of price points ($.50-$1.00). Additional items will launch in 2013. The licensing agreement was brokered on behalf of The Collective by The Joester Loria Group (TJLG), licensing agent for the Annoying Orange brand.

Additionally, a toy line from Jakks Pacific will hit shelves in early spring 2013, and several key licensees are in place for consumer product launches in 2013 and beyond. Zodiak Kids, the kid-centric production/distribution arm of Zodiak Media, secures a deal with Lagardere Media Group for a package of 60+ hours of programming from Zodiak Kids for Lagardere’s free TV channel Gulli (France). The deal sees Lagardere acquire season three of the animated series Atomic Betty (13×26) and the first two seasons of Amazing Spiez (52×26) and the first two seasons of Team Galaxy (52×26). Atomic Betty is produced by Tele Images Productions for M6 (France), Amazing Spiez is a Marathon Media production for TF1 (France), while Team Galaxy is a Marathon Media production for Disney XD.  Tele Images Productions and Marathon Media Productions are both part of Zodiak Kids.

BBC commissions Kindle Entertainment and Plug-in Media, a digital media production company, to produce two online games based on Kindle’s action adventure series Leonardo, currently in its second season, for CBBC (UK) and Get Well Soon for CBeebies (UK). A chase game, the new action 3D Leonardo narrative game will be available to play on the CBBC website. The game mission is set up through an interactive comic strip that features the show’s characters and leads players through a series of events in which they help Leonardo and his friends using the vehicles he invented. Also offering an interactive experience is the Get Well Soon game, which kids can play on the CBeebies website. The game enables preschoolers to learn about childhood illness in an interesting and informative way. Players enroll to help series host, Dr. Ranj, in his busy surgery where they are given the chance to treat each of the Get Well Soon puppets that are featured in the series.
