Cynopsis: Kids!
10/01/10

Good morning. It’s Friday, October 1, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Disney launches Disney Magic of Healthy Living, its new multimedia initiative that is designed to partner with and support parents to help raise healthy and happy kids.  The campaign will also see First Lady Michelle Obama partner with Disney on the effort in a series of public service announcements (PSAs).  The new initiative supports both Disney’s ongoing efforts to help kids make healthy food and lifestyle choices and Mrs. Obama Let’s Move! campaign, which aims to reduce childhood obesity in the US.  Elements of Disney’s Magic of Healthy Living include:

  • A year-long series of PSAs featuring Mrs. Obama and Disney Channel stars, such as Nick Jonas and Brenda Song, which will run on Disney Channel, Disney XD, radio Disney and Disney.com.  The spots will also air on ABC and will be distributed via the Ad Council to broadcast, network and local cable stations (donated media).
  • Disney is launching two new websites: Disney.com/healthyfun ( www.disney.com/healthyfun), which is designed to engage kids about healthy living; and Family.com/healthymagic ( www.family.com/healthymagic) that will provide ideas and resources for parents/caregivers.
  • Kids will be invited to take part in a national essay contest focusing on ideas for living a health life at home, school and in their communities. More information can be found at Disney.com/healthyfun.
  • A $1 million grant from Disney will go to build play spaces and gardens in 10 underserved communities.  Disney will work with KaBoom!, a non-profit organization, to achieve this.

Cake is partnering with Sticky Pictures to co-produce the new tween-targeted animated series Herb and Ray’s Yum (52×12).  The series revolves around buddies and misfits Herb and Ray, who serve as hosts of the weird web-based cooking show The Yum  despite their lack of cooking knowledge.  Designed and created by director Pete Candeland (Beatles Rock Band, Gorillaz videos) and writer/editor/creator Stu Connolly (co-creator/writer/editor CJ the DJ, Monster Auditions, Dukes of Broxstonia).  Herb and Ray’s Yum was developed with assistance of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
