Overall total estimated viewership declined for the final live Presidential Debate between candidates Senators Barack Obama and John McCain Wednesday night from approximately 9-1030p. Nielsen reports 56.5 million total viewers tuned into a combination of 11 networks: ABC, CBS, NBC, Univision, BBC-America, CNBC, CNN, FOX News Channel, MSNBC, mun2 and tape delayed on Telemundo. According to Live Feed, NBC topped the list at 11.3 million; ABC 10.6 million; CBS 9.2 million; FOX News 9.1 million; CNN 8.9 million; and MSNBC 3.7 million. Viewership for PBS’ live coverage was estimated at 3.2 million viewers. With PBS’ numbers added in, the final debate was seen by 59.7 million viewers. In addition, Nielsen released household ratings for Wednesday’s last Presidential Debate based on the top 56 local markets containing electronic TV meters. The combined local market HH rating was a 38.3, a number lower than the second debate at 42.1 yet higher than the first debate’s rating at 34.7. Note: FOX aired MLB NLCS Game 5 instead. Bravo’s Project Runway season five concluding episode Wednesday night at 9p with repeat airings at 11p and 12a attracted a total aggregate of nearly 4.8 million A18-49 viewers and almost 7.2 million total viewers. At the first 9p airing, the finale delivered approximately 3.2 million A18-49 viewers and close to 4.8 million total viewers. SCI FI Channel set the premiere of the fourth and final season of Battlestar Galactica on January 16, 2009 at 10p. The series will air over 10 weeks and end with a finale on March 20. Additionally on SCI FI Channel, the season finale of Destination Truth Wednesday at 10p packed in 1.0 million A18-49 viewers, 1.0 million A25-54 viewers as well as 1.6 million total viewers. CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY: The online ad industry breathed a collective sigh of relief as Google reported solid Q3 earnings, bringing in $5.54 billion in revenue (up 31% y/y and 3% from Q2) and $1.35 billion in net revenue. AdSense partners also did well as partner sites generated $1.68 billion, a slight uptick from last quarter. While cognizant of the global economic malaise, Google CEO Eric Schmidt painted an upbeat picture of the future, predicting that the web will ultimately benefit from tighter consumer budgets. The earnings announcement was timed to coincide with the unveiling of the T-Mobile G1 – the first phone to run Google’s mobile Android operating system. Full edition: CYN DIGITAL. CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY: Nickelodeon premieres the hour-long primetime Dora the Explorer TV movie, Dora Saves the Snow Princess on Monday, November 3 at 8p. In the special, Dora and the gang rescue La Princesa Sabrina who has been locked in a tower by an evil witch. The support plan for the movie debut includes: Nick Jr. Video is offering a two minute sneak peek and song clips from the special, and themed episodes of Dora, from October 20; VCast will also feature the sneak peek and song clips from the movie s of October 20; beginning October 27, Verizon ViOS’ VOD features an advanced screening of the TV movie; Nickelodeon Home Entertainment and paramount Home Entertainment have already released the Dora Saves the Snow Princess DVD at retail; this month will also see the release of Dora Saves the Snow Princess video games. CYNOPSIS INTERNATIONAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY: Discovery Communications secured a channel position on the U.K.’s Freeview DTT platform through an agreement with ITV plc’s SDN Ltd multiplex operator. The channel will make its debut on the market in the beginning of 2009 with content pulled from Discovery’s factual, entertainment and lifestyle programming library as well as from scripted programs acquitted specifically for the new, as-of-yet unnamed channel (more details to come out as the launch time nears). Tom Calderone advanced to President of VH1 to oversee the brands VH1, VH1 Classic, VH1 Soul, VH1.com and other extensions. Tom has been with VH1 since 2005 where he most recently served as EVP/GM. Based in New York, Tom will continue to report to Van Toffler, MTV Networks Music and Logo Group President. Stephen E. Recht joins Glam Media, Inc. as CFO, replacing the company’s co-founder Ernie Cicogna who becomes EVP/Glam Partners and GM/Glam Publisher Network. Stephen will report to Samir Arora, Chairman/CEO. Additionally, co-founder Dianna Mullins will take on new duties as VP/Culture and Employee Relations. Comedy Central established Comedy Central Live Entertainment, a new business unit to concentrate on the live comedy industry encompassing stand-up tours, comedy events and performance DVDs/CDs. Mitch Fried will spearhead this unit as SVP, Comedy Central Live Entertainment. Sony Pictures Television (SPT) upped Scott Johnson to VP/Television and Film Library Development where he supervises the television series library for the company. Guerilla FX recruited Vance Miller for the position of Character Animator/Technical Director.
