Good morning. It’s Friday, October 14, 2011, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.
Sesame Street will take on the issue of bullying in a special episode, The Good Birds Club, which will air on PBS stations on Monday, October 17 (check local listings). This anti-bullying episode, which follows Big Bird as he gets bullied by another bird in the neighborhood, aims to educate the youngest viewers about bullying and teach them the pro-social skills necessary to prevent such events, and the difference between reporting and tattling. The episode is part of a larger Sesame Street anti-bullying effort, which also includes: two other episodes focusing on bullying-related social-emotional issues; a parenting page ( www.sesamestreet.org/bullying) that provides parents/caregivers with videos, tips and “view and do” activities for kids that promote healthy friendships and respect and understanding of other’s differences; a special 5-part video series Happy To Be Me: An Anti-Bullying Discussion with experts in various fields; a full street story of The Good Birds Club will also be available online so parents/caregivers can watch with their kids. The two companion episodes The Big Bad Wolf Huffs and Puffs Slimey and Baby Bear’s Baby Doll, which will air on October 18 and October 21 respectively (check local listings), address a variety of issues associated with bullying. Sesame Street is produced by Sesame Workshop, and funded in part by a grant though the Public Broadcasting Services and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and public TV viewers. Friday Fun Fact: The word “queue” is the only word in the English language that is still pronounced the same way when the last four letters are removed
Answer to Yesterday’s Trivia Question: According to Matt Groening, what iconic TV character was the inspiration for Bart Simpson? A lot of guesses for Dennis the Menace but Matt Groening has repeatedly stated that he was very disappointed that Dennis wasn’t more of a “menace,” so he based Bart on a true menace, Eddie Haskell from Leave it to Beaver. Kudos to: Brett Ashy-The Ashy Agency/LA.
Today’s Trivia Question: Who voiced the two leads in The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show? (Email [email protected] with your answer and be sure to include your name, company, city and time zone. Unofficial rules: Only the second four correct answers from each time zone will be mentioned; and once you’ve been mentioned in any of the Cynopsis editions, you can’t be mentioned again that calendar week.)
