Cynopsis: DIGITAL
10.11.13
Good morning. It’s Friday, October 11, 2013, and this is your first early morning digital briefing.
Google rolled out a new TV episode and movie search feature this week, which displays titles, airdates, and sneak peaks. The tool also provides ratings from IMDB and TV.com, as well as the option to schedule a reminder for an upcoming airdate. However, the function does not include live show schedules.
Frederator Studios is bringing a second season of Bravest Warriors to its YouTube channel Cartoon Hangover. The season will include 12 five-minute episodes, debuting every other Thursday. CH plans to roll out more originals within the next year, starting with a slew of digital shorts to be released on Oct. 24.
AOL On launched on Oct. 8 the first Tribeca Digital Studios original series, Acting Disruptive, in which host and co-creator Max Lugavere talks to Hollywood’s top media innovators. The series will include 12 episodes, and six have already been released at activingdisruptive.com.
YouTube celeb Philip Defranco‘s newest channel premieres on October 14. Called ForHumanPeoples, it will feature creative minds and their ideas for new videos. Defranco will use his friends and fellow YouTube notable’s concepts, but is also asking the audience for contributions, too. The channel is based on Defranco’s retail site of the same name. His channels and shows, which have generated more than 1 billion views since 2006, were acquired by Discovery’s Revision3 last May.
Call for Submissions: Cynopsis is producing its annual Holiday Programming Guide, which comes out on November 26 and will be sent to all Cynopsis and Cynopsis Kids subscribers. Please include the following information: type of program (i.e. series, special, documentary, movie or holiday-themed episode), title, dates and times of all airings (please indicate when the show first premieres and when subsequent encores will air). A confirmation email will be sent following each submission from Lynn (if you don’t receive a confirmation email, please resubmit).
Even in the midst of court battles across the country, online TV streaming service Aereo announced its platform will be available for Android mobile devices this month. The new app can be downloaded from GooglePlay on Oct. 22, and will work in the seven Aereo markets. TV broadcasters are fighting to ban Aereo, as the service uses antennas to receive TV signals and allows subscribers to record the content for $8/month.
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment released a new mobile game for Apple devices yesterday called AdvenChewers. The original game takes players on a journey to conquer robot armies, with a social component so they can see friends’ progress and share their own. The game is available for download from the app store.

The New York Times released its latest research on online video user habits, and found one third of millennials watch mostly online video and no broadcast TV. Other key findings from the 4,000 online video users surveyed were that news sites are more popular than sports videos, but still less popular than sites like YouTube. In addition, six out of ten users will watch an ad if the countdown timer conveys a short length.
Yahoo is once again ever so slightly ranking above Google, but this time in searches on a mobile device. Rimm-Kaufman Group Q3 Digital Marketing Report conducted the analysis, and found that 31 percent of mobile searches happened via Yahoo, compared to Google’s 30 percent.
In other words: This will probably be the exact news Yahoo’s Marissa Meyer wants to hear, because her biggest push since taking over the site was for its mobile platform.
Coca-Cola and FedEx topped The Search Agency’s report on Fortune 100 companies with the best mobile site. The research analyzed the companies on a 1-5 scale based on mobile factors like load speed, site format, calculated download speed, social media presence and application presence. The two companies scored 4.49, followed by Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association and Walgreens, tied at 4.24. The study found that only 47 percent of the Fortune 100 list used a separate mobile site at all.
Smirnoff vodka is launching a new app called Mixhibit, which allows users to collect tweets, Facebook posts and Instagram photos into a video collection that includes a music soundtrack. The collage videos can then be shared to Facebook.
