Good morning. It’s Friday, November 4, 2011, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.
Nickelodeon has begun production in Vancouver on a new original Big Time Rush TV movie, Big Time Movie, featuring Big Time Rush’s covers of classic Beatles songs, Help!, A Hard Day’s Night, We Can Work It Out and Revolution. The TV movie also features music from the upcoming second Big Time Rush album, Elevate, which Columbia Records/Nickelodeon will release on November 21, 2011. Set to premiere on Nickelodeon in 2012, Big Time Movie is executive produced by Big Time Rush series creator Scott Fellows. The movie follows the four Big Time Rush guys as they head to London for their first world tour. When their bags get mixed up at the airport the guys end up with a device that could destroy the world, which sets them, along with their new teen spy friend Penny Lane, on a mission to save the planet and still make it to the first concert on their world tour on time, all the while with the bag guys on their trail.
Shaquille O’Neal announced yesterday, via Twitter, that he is hosting the second annual Hall of Game Awards, airing on Cartoon Network in early 2012. As it did in its first year, Cartoon Network’s Hall of Game Awards will invite viewers to vote for their favorite sports stars and sports moment of the year. Last year 37+ million votes were logged online. The Hall of Game Awards will again be produced by IMG Media, the production arm of IMG, with Michael Dempsey and Steve Mayer back as executive producers. Also returning is Time Inc. Sports Group’s SI KIDS, which will again serve as the official media partner.
Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products teams with SimEx-Iwerks and European theme park operator Merlin Entertainment to debut the new Ice Age experience, based on the Ice Age movies, in spring 2012. The immersive Ice Age attraction featuring Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs The 4D Experience, will launch in March 2012 at two of Merlin’s theme park resorts; Alton Towers in the UK, and Gardaland in Italy, when the parks open for the season. This sets the plan in motion for a long-term location based entertainment rollout for the Ice Age franchise. The Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs The 4D Experience attraction will combine 3D movie footage from the third Ice Age movie with synchronized physical effects. The attraction will also feature walk around characters, gift shop, and at Alton Towers Resort, there will be two interactive Ice Age-themed guest rooms at the theme park’s Splash Landings Hotel. SimEx-Iwerks, an innovator of immersive 3D and 4D attractions, will work with Fox to develop Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs The 4D Experience. The fourth Ice Age movie in the film series, Ice Age: Continental Drift, will release in theaters in 3D in July 2012.
Firefly Brand Management enters into an international licensing representation deal with the photographer Anne Geddes‘ (www.annegeddes.com) Geddes Group. Geddes is noted for her portraits of babies and her new English-language my Pregnancy: A Woman’s Story digital magazine, the first issue launches this month, and the new weekly TV series my Pregnancy A Woman’s Story, which currently airs in Australia on Channel 7Two.
Scholastic unveils plans to publish a fourth movie tie-in title for The Hunger Games movie, which opens in theaters March 23, 2012. The newest title, The Hunger Games Tribute Guide, a guide to the 24 Tributes featured in movie, will release on February 7, 2012, the same day as two other previously announced tie-in titles, The Hunger Games: Movie Tie-In Edition and The Hunger Games: Official Illustrated Movie Companion. Another already announced tie-in title, The World of The Hunger Games, will be released simultaneously with the movie. Additionally, a special gift edition of The Hunger Games, The Hunger Games Collector’s Edition, featuring a foil slipcase and new Mockingjay artwork, cloth cover, and deckled edges, releases this month. The Hunger Games is the first book in the young adult The Hunger Games trilogy created by author and TV writer Suzanne Collins.
Nickelodeon‘s third annual TeenNick HALO Awards (www.teennick.com/shows/halo-awards) will air this Sunday, November 6 at 8p on Nick at Nite. The 90-minute HALO (Helping and Leading Others) special, taped live last week at the Hollywood Palladium, is created, hosted and executive produced by Nick Cannon, celebrates teens that are making a difference in the world. In addition to honoring real teens with awards, the show also features celebrity appearances by Mary J. Blige, Jason Derulo, Heidi Klum, Serena Williams, Stephen Moyer, Victoria Justice and Ariel Winter, among others. Each of the four teen HALO honorees, were awarded a grant for their cause and given the opportunity to meet with a celebrity who shares a similar passion for their cause. This year’s celebrity matches are Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Jessica Biel and David Beckham, who will also be featured with in the show. Presenting sponsors of this year’s TeenNick HALO Awards are Chevrolet, COVERGIRL, Dove, Reese’s Puffs cereal, and Target.
Chapman Entertainment‘s stop-motion animated preschool series Raa Raa The Noisy Lion (52×10) heads to Australia where it premieres on ABC 4 Kids today, Friday, November 4, 2011 at 5:10p. The series will be complimented with a new publishing deal with Penguin that is slated to release its first titles in 2012. Developed with speech, language and communication experts, Raa Raa the Noisy Lion has already launched on CBeebies (UK). The series is produced by Chapman Entertainment and Mackinnon & Saunders. Haven Licensing is the licensing agent for Raa Raa the Noisy Lion in Australia.
Australia’s Seven Network picks up the HD animated series Teenage Fairytale Dropouts (52×11) for broadcast in 2013. Co-produced by Anima Estudios, SLR Productions, Home Plate Entertainment and Telegael, Teenage Fairytale Dropouts follows three best friends, each second-generation fairytale characters, who just want to be themselves despite what their well-known fairytale parents think. The series stars Jeremiah, the son of The Giant from Jack and the Beanstalk, Fury, the daughter of the Tooth Fairy, and Trafalgar, one of Merlin’s many nephews. CCI Entertainment recently signed on as the worldwide distributor for the new series. Teenage Fairytale Dropouts is slated for international broadcast release in 2013.
BBC Worldwide Channels‘ CBeebies for Latin America and US Hispanic communities will debut the second season of the preschool-targeted educational game show Kerwhizz on Wednesday, November 7 at 3p during the channel’s Playtime Bloc. Kerwhizz is produced by the BBC, with Alison Stewart serving as Executive Producer, and Stephen Cannon as producer.
Ameba TV (www.amebatv.com), a Canadian-based distribution service of kid’s content on demand via multiple platforms, launches on the LG Smart TV platform in the US and Canada. Homes with a LG Smart TV device now have on demand access to commercial free Ameba kids TV content, including Sid the Science Kid, BusyTown Mysteries, Raggs, Mr. Furry Fur Fur, This is Daniel Cook, World of Wonders and Ruby Skye PI. LG Smart TV owners can get unlimited instant access to Ameba for a flat $3.99 monthly fee. The Ameba library contains 2,000+ hours of educational, preschool, music and multi language programming aimed at K2-12, including content from Decode Entertainment, NCircle Entertainment, Breakthrough New Media, Casablanca Kids, Sockeye, Marble Media, Portfolio, TVO, Agogo Entertainment, Genuine Pictures, and many other independent producers.
BBC Worldwide Channels renews its broadcast services pact with London-based Red Bee Media. Under the new multi-year deal, Red Been Media will continue to provide end-to-end, file based media management and playout services for eight of BBC Worldwide’s channels including CBeebies, BBC Entertainment, BBC Knowledge, BBC Lifestyle in South Africa, and BBC Entertainment, BBC Knowledge and BBC Lifestyle channels in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland, and the BBC HD service across Europe.
