Cynopsis: Kids!
11/30/07
Good morning. It’s Friday, November 30, 2007, and this is your first early morning.
Some programming changes for the qubo Channel and qubo.com to report. Furthering its effort to promote literacy qubo.com debuts Zimmer Twins, a new storytelling application that invites kids to create animated mini-movies, which could be selected to run on the qubo channel and the qubo blocks on NBC, ION and Telemundo. Additionally, the qubo channel will expand its online presence with new content for each of its series to be featured on qubo.com such as individual show pages, video clips, games and activities. Meanwhile on the TV side, Monday, December 3 marks the premiere of a new programming schedule on the qubo Channel including the new animated series Miss B.G. (as in Big Girl). Also joining the daily line-up will be Babar and Jacob Two-Two, with the weekday schedule welcoming Postman pat. A joint venture among ION Media Networks, NBC Universal, Scholastic, Entertainment Rights group companies (Entertainment Rights, Classic Media and Big Idea) and Corus Entertainment, qubo is a bilingual kids’ entertainment content provider. The qubo Channel is broadcast in both English and Spanish and is available in all markets served by an ION Television station, as well through Verizon’s FIOS TV, AT&T’s U-Verse and Mediacom.
Boomerang month-long holiday celebration takes off this weekend Saturday, December 1, and every weekend through December 23, 4-5:30p, as the network features a host of favorite Christmas Classic animated specials. Additionally, on Christmas Eve Boomerang will offer holiday themed programming all day long 9a-6a, and Christmas day 6a-2:30p. What can kid (and kid-like folks) expect from the annual Boomerang Christmas Party Stunt? Glad you asked weekends will include – Yogi’s First Christmas (12/1); A Flintstone Christmas Carol (12/2); A Jetsons Christmas Carol (12/8); Yogi Bear’s All-Star Comedy Christmas Caper (12/9); Smurf’s Christmas Special (12/15); Christmas Comes To Pac-land (12/16). Christmas Eve and Day will offer Justice League Comfort and Joy (12/24, 6:30p); and A Flintstone Family Christmas (12/25, 8a) among others.
The Family Friendly Programming Forum (FFPF), an initiative of the Association of National Advertisers, handed out The 9th Annual Family Television Awards, which will air as a special on Thursday, December 27, 2007, 9-10p on The CW Network. Hosted by Phil Keoghan, who hosts the Amazing Race, the Family Television Awards features awards presented in 11 categories, with honorees including Zac Efron, Ugly Betty and Heroes. The special features appearances by celebrities including Paula Abdul, LeVar Burton, Kristin Chenoweth, Jack Coleman, Kenny Ortega, Monique Coleman, America Ferrera, Vanessa Hudgens, Ryne Sanborn, Jordin Sparks, Kaycee Stroh, Ashley Tisdale, and Tyler James Williams among others. A portion of the proceeds from the show goes to help fund scholarships to encourage student writers to write about family friendly themes.
Egmont USA announced it has inked a distribution partnership with Random House to handle its US sales and distribution.
MARKETING/LICENSING
As if he wasn’t grouchy enough (at least to start), The Grinch is likely getting his AARP card in the mail this week, as Random House has set December 1 as National Grinch Day to celebrate his 50th anniversary. Really Dr. Seuss’ story, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, was originally published in 1957. To mark the event, Random House Children’s Books is launching Grow Your Heart Three Sizes with the Grinch, which underlines the message of the story and thus aims to promote charity and good deeds. Random House is also sponsoring a National Grinch Costume Tour (events include read-alouds, photo-ops etc.) and is partnering with the US Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program.
