~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

NBC announced two fall season casualties: My Own Worst Enemy and Lipstick Jungle, both produced by NBC Universal Media Studios. My Own Worst Enemy, the Christian Slater drama, is expected to continue through its ninth episode with no more produced. NBC will then air Lipstick Jungle, which moved recently from Wednesday nights to Friday, through its thirteenth episode with no additional episodes produced.

Another sophomore drama possibly on the hit list is ABC’s Pushing Daisies, per Variety. Currently, the show is wrapping production on 13 episodes and the network may not order any more, although a final decision has not been made.

Speculation also surrounds the future of FOX’s Prison Break, cites THR. Actors on the show were told by 20th TV the production schedule may be extended to only two more episodes. FOX has not declared if these two hours will be the finale of the four-year old series or if they will air them next spring as a two-hour special event. The network did not include the remaining six episodes of Prison Break’s 22-episode order on its midseason schedule.

It’s good news for Sanctuary as SCI FI Channel ordered a second season of the series. Production will begin on thirteen 60m episodes in Vancouver early in the New Year with a 2009 roll-out. Sanctuary is produced in association with SCI FI Channel and distributed by Tricon Films and Television.

Wednesday night’s fifth season premiere of Bravo’s Top Chef: New York was the highest-rated ever for the series. The debut episode served up nearly 1.9 million A18-49 viewers and almost 2.7 million total viewers.

Fox Television Stations and NBC Local Media are partnering on a local news service launching in Philadelphia this January, reports B&C. The two companies will launch local news collaborations in other markets, especially where both own TV stations such as Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Dallas and Washington. The heads of both companies hope this working relationship will exist in the future in every market containing Fox and NBC affiliates. Jointly the companies will offer their content to other media outlets in each market, even competing TV stations, print publications, radio and digital media.

In an effort to spur awareness and education for the February 17, 2009 digital broadcast TV transition, twenty-three cable networks produced PSAs, making them available to cable companies at no charge. This initiative was aided by CTAM DTV Transition Council and the CTAM MSO Co-op. In addition, Comcast Media Center’s Advertising Distribution Network is housing the spots for download at no cost to networks or cable companies via the new CTAM DTV Transition Media portal at
. The participating networks include: BET, BET J, Cartoon Network, CBS College Sports, CMT, E!, Fox Sports en Espanol, FUEL TV, Great American Country, GOLF, Hallmark Channel, HBO, HGTV, mun2, National Geographic Channel, NBCU, Nickelodeon, Retirement Living TV, SPROUT, Style Network, TBS, TCM and Versus.

ESPN’s same-day coverage of the World Series of Poker final on November 11 drew in close to 2.4 million viewers and posted a 1.9 rating.

ESPN and The R&A, organizer of The Open Championship, made an eight-year deal where all four rounds of The Open Championship, consisting of 34 hours over four days, will be presented live on ESPN starting 2010. The deal further includes rights for digital platforms, television and digital media rights for ESPN International and same-day weekend highlights coverage on ABC totaling six hours. Other specifics of the deal covers exclusivity on all rounds of the Senior Open Championship; the next two Walker Cups in the UK in 2011 and 2015; plus more than 90 TV hours and 40+ hours of live coverage on ESPN360.com and ESPN Mobile TV.

On behalf of ESPN, Disney submitted a $125 billion bid for the rights to the entire Bowl Championship Series that covers the Orange, Sugar, Fiesta and Rose bowls as well as the BCS National Championship, reports Variety. If Disney wins, the games would start airing on ESPN in 2010. FOX, which currently airs all bowl games except the Rose, just jumped its bid to $100 million up from $82.5 million per year. ABC now has the Rose Bowl which would likely move to ESPN if the Disney bid is accepted.

Housekeeping Note:  The U.S. Unemployment Rate was just announced this morning (11/7/08) at 6.5%, up from 6.1% the previous month, and the highest number in 14 years.  In an effort to help those who may find themselves out of work during these difficult economic times, Cynopsis is offering free Situation Wanted ads to all looking for work, for both new and returning clients, for the foreseeable future.  To place an ad or for more information, email
