Cynopsis: Kids!
11/11/11
Good morning. It’s Friday November 11, 2011, and this your first early morning briefing.
We are now just one week away from Summit Entertainment‘s release of (insert fingers in ears now) The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1, which opens Friday, November 18, 2011. Building on the anticipation of the release Yahoo! and Summit Entertainment are partnering for a digital promotional, broadcast and content experience for the movie. This includes (you can take your fingers out of your ears now) a weeklong promotion on the Yahoo.com homepage, which will also feature a countdown clock that will run beginning Monday, November 14, and will be accompanied by exclusive movie content. Also on November 14, Yahoo! Movies will livestream the red carpet arrivals at the premiere in LA, starting at 8p at http://movies.yahoo.com/twilight, which will include interviews with some of the actors and filmmakers. Twilight fans will be asked to submit questions for the stars via Facebook. On site at the red carpet premiere in LA, Yahoo will set up a “Twi-Fi Lounge,” with daily programming and free prizes where fans can meet cast members, mingle, and have a “wedding” photo taken with an Edward Cullen standee, and share their photos via their social networks. Yahoo! Movies is also hosting a “Say ‘I Do’ Sweepstakes” giveaway now through November 18 on its Facebook page. Further promotional activities for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 will also stretch across Yahoo! Music, omg! From Yahoo!, and Yahoo! Mail.
During Viacom‘s quarterly earnings call with analysts yesterday, CEO Philippe Dauman said the company is working with Nielsen to investigate an “inexplicable” double-digit ratings drop of 15-20% in kid viewership for Nickelodeon during September, per THR. Dauman explained Nickelodeon ratings are traditionally “very predictable” and that the recent ratings dip is an “anomaly.” Viacom and Nielsen are also working with the Media Rating Council to investigate the situation. Dauman also said that ratings data from independent set-top-boxes reveals “meaningfully different viewership trends.” The ratings decline came at an “unfortunate” time, just as toymakers and advertisers are preparing for their holiday plans.
