Cynopsis: Kids!
05/16/08
Good morning. It’s Friday, May 16, 2008, and this is your first early morning briefing.
Cinema Manage Group inks a world rights sales rights deal for the CG-animated comedy/action feature film, Louis La Chance, which takes place at the Monaco Grand Prix. Produced by Shax France and LuxAnimation the $16 million movie is directed by Philippe Leclerk and Xavier Aliot. The movie revolves around two brothers and their plan to enter the 1934 Grand Prix with their dad’s restored car, using a unique racing fuel developed by one of the brothers, in their effort to restore the family name and beat the man who may have be responsible for the death of their dad in the same race several years earlier.
Lionsgate Films snags the worldwide distribution rights (excluding Mexico) to the feature film The Perfect Game, per THR. From HighRoad Entertainment, the movie (f/k/a The Third Miracle) is based on the true story of the team that won the 1957 Little League World Series, which was comprised of kids from Monterrey, Mexico and was the first non-American team to win the series. William Dear will direct the picture from a screenplay by W. William Winokur, who will also serve as a producer, and will star Clifton Collins Jr., Cheech Marin, Moises Arias and Louis Gossett Jr. The movie is slated for release on August 8.
MORE KIDS STUFF
The animated preschool series Mama Mirabelle’s Home Movies, which airs on PBS Kids, will be a featured part of this summer’s National Geographic Kids’ Big Screen Safari, this summer’s kid and parent-aimed in-theater program from National Geographic Kids Entertainment and Kidtoons. Additionally, this July and August five new “Summer Playtime” episodes of Mama Mirabelle’s Home Movies will bow on PBS Kids, and with new series related games and activities online at www.pbskids.org .
Utilizing the popular handheld device as a Trojan horse of sorts, Disney Interactive Studios launched DGamer, a community site where North American Nintendo DS users can connect up and share games. DS users must have access to a wireless broadband access point to join the network. Kids can choose from a variety of Disney characters to serve as their avatar, which improve in stature as they complete in-game missions. The site launches in conjunction with the release of the Nintendo DS version of Disney/Walden Media’s The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, based on the film opening today.
BKN International plans to deliver two new animated movies later this spring, Zorro and Scarlet Whip: Revealed! and Dork Hunters and the Pirates of Tortuga Island. Both titles are 80-minutes and are based on BKN’s series Zorro: Generation Z and Dork Hunters from Outer Space. Additionally, both movies will be available for TV license and for DVD release later this year. Zorro and Scarlet Whip: Revealed! follows the Zorro – Return to the Future movie.
MARKETING/LICENSING

Produced by Live Nation the concert tour will is scheduled to visit 38 cities across North America, during which Burger King plans to provide fans samples of its new BK Fresh Apple Fries and as well as offering a few fans an exclusive meet and greet with the group. STONE SOUP
Tween girls 8-12 are spending some $500 million annually on beauty products according to the NPD Group’s newest report, Insight Into the Youth Beauty Market, which in addition to tweens looks at a broader spectrum of youth consumers 8-24 years old. In the survey tween girls report first using beauty products at 10 years old. Who is paying for the beauty products? Four out of 10 tween gals say they use their allowance to make their purchases, while about six in ten say their parent/guardian pays for their products. What are tween girls buying? Well, about 60% of the tween girls report they use fragrances/body sprays, with five out of 10 girls having used skincare products, while makeup came in third. Not shocking to those of us who were once tween girls, lip gloss is one of the most popular products they use. However, different from what I recall of my tweendom, the NPD report finds that today’s tween girls use at least 30 different beauty product categories, which includes firming cellulite cream. The report finds that tween girls favorite fragrance brands include: Bath and Body Works; Britney Spears; Britney Spears: Curious; Victoria Secrets; and ck: One.
