Cynopsis: Kids!

05/14/10

Good morning. It’s Friday, May 14, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

BBC Worldwide Channels completes a deal to launch CBeebies in South Korea for the first time.  The preschool-targeted channel launches tomorrow, Saturday, May 15 at 6a, on the basic tier of KT’s IPTV service, Qook TV, which reaches 1.2+ million subscribers.  KT (f/k/a Korea Telecom) is the country’s largest wired/wireless telecommunication service provider, holding the largest share of South Korean fixed line and high-speed internet market.

MTV Networks has agreed to televise two press conferences at the E3 Expo 2010 in LA: the first is the premiere of Microsoft’s Project Natal for Xbox 360 ( www.xbox.com/en-us/live/projectnatal/ ) interface at 3:30p on June 15, which allows the user to play along on screen without a controller. The Project Natal demo will feature a live performance imagined by Cirque du Soleil and will air commercial free on MTV, and later that day on Nick at Nite, mtvU, MTVN Hits and Logo at 9p. The second, a briefing revealing the future of the Xbox 360 platform, will air live on Spike TV on Monday, June 14 at 1:30p. Both events will also stream live on MTV’s GameTrailers.com ( www.gametrailers.com ), which will also feature exclusive live pre- and post-shows for the Xbox 360 briefing on June 14 with additional video game world premieres and announcements.

MORE KIDS STUFF

Sesame Workshop announces it will produce a third season of The Electric Company for PBS Kids Go! ( www.pbskidsgo.org/electriccompany ).  Production begins this July in NYC on 12×30 new episodes of the series that will feature new cast members joining the company.  It’s a big week for The Electric Company, which received eight Daytime Emmy Entertainment nominations yesterday.  The Electric Company is made possible by support of American Greetings and Beaches Resorts.

YTV (Canada) picks up a second season of That’s So Weird! From Halifax Film, a division of DHX Media.  The new season of the tween/teen-targeted live-action sketch comedy series is comprised of 13×30 episodes.  The first season of That’s So Weird was recently acquired by Boomerang Latin America and Nickelodeon Australia.  Decode Enterprises, also a unit of DHX Media, handles worldwide distribution of the series.

CBBC debuts a new season of the HD comedy series Horrible Histories during a special beginning Monday, May 31, and airing new episodes every day that week at 5:15p.  Following that the Horrible Histories air Tuesdays on CBBC.  Horrible Histories is produced by Lion TV for CBBC and is based on the book series by author Terry Deary and illustrator Martin Brown, which is licensed by Scholastic Entertainment and published by Scholastic UK.  The series continues to feature lots of odd facts, rotten rulers, gory battles, crazy inventions, the comedy songs, and other weird stuff, as well as returning and new cast members, and special appearances by a range of comedians.

Disney Channel premieres the concept music video It’s On! tonight at 8:25p featuring the stars of its upcoming TV movie Camp Rock 2 The Final Jam, including Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato, Meaghan Martin, Matthew “Mdot” Finely, Jordan “J” Francis, Roshon Fegan, Alyson Stoner and Anna Maria Perez de Tagle.  The soundtrack for Camp Rock 2 The Final Jam releases July 27 on Walt Disney Records.  Additionally, Jonas Brothers three continent concert tour with guest Demi Lovato, which will also feature appearances by other cast members from Camp Rock 2, kicks off July 27 in Dallas, Texas.  The concert tour is produced by Live Nation and sponsored by OfficeMax.  Camp Rock 2 The Final Jam is set to premiere on Disney Channel on Friday, September 3, 2010.
