Cynopsis: Kids!
05/10/12
Good morning. It’s Friday, May 11, 2012, and this your first early morning briefing.
Guillermo Del Toro (Pacific Rim, Pan’s Labyrinth, exec. producer on Puss in Boots and Kung Fu Panda 2, Rise of the Guardians) and Mark Gustafson (animation director on The Fantastic Mr. Fox) are set to co-direct The Jim Henson Company‘s stop motion 3D animated adaptation of Pinocchio, which is based on a version of Carlo Collodi’s classic story that features illustrations by Gris Grimly. The movie will serve as the first time Del Toro has directed an animated feature film. Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio is a retelling of the classic story and features a story by Del Toro, and frequent collaborator Matthew Robbins, and Grimly. Robbins wrote the screenplay for the project. Lisa Henson will produce for The Jim Henson Company with Del Toro and Jason Lust. Grimly and Gary Ungar will serve as executive producers, as will Bill Johnson and Jim Seibel of Inferno. Noted rocker and film composer Nick Cave will serve as music consultant for the production. Inferno will represent the property to international buyers at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.

“Please look after this bear. Thank you.” Paddington Bear, the popular duffle coat wearing and marmalade sandwich loving bear from deepest darkest Peru, is headed to the big screen with the help of producer David Heyman (all eight Harry Potter movies), who is partnering with France’s StudioCanal on the project, per Digital Spy. Directed by Paul King (Bunny and the Bull), the new mixed CGI live action modern version of Paddington Bear is based on the original books by Michael Bond, the first of which was published in 1958. The movie is being financed by StudioCanal, which will also distribute the movie in the UK, France and Germany as well as handle international sales. Paddington Bear previously starred in the BBC’s 1970s stop-motion animated TV series, featuring the voice of Sir Michael Hordern, and then in the 1980s Hanna-Barbera adaptation including the voices of Charlie Adler and Tim Curry.
