AARP has launched AARP TV, a franchise to create original lifestyle and news programming for boomers and persons 50+. AARP TV’s first syndicated half-hour television shows, Inside E Street and My Generation will premiere on Retirement Living Television (RLTV). Inside E Street is a consumer affairs program hosted by Sheilah Kast, and launching March 10 at at 3p on Mondays and Fridays. My Generation is a lifestyle magazine show featuring experts on a variety of topics such as health, money, relationships, entertainment and volunteering. With hosts Greg Williams and Cynthia Steele, My Generation will air Tuesdays through Thursdays at 3p as of March 11. In addition to airing on RLTV, both shows will be distributed via in complete form as well as edited into segments.

AMC: Television’s Best Story


Deadliest Catch is back on the Discovery Channel for a fourth season starting April 15 at 9p. The new season will be broadcast in hi-def for the first time and fans of the show can get ready by watching a two-hour Best of Season Three special April 8 at 9p.

BBC America’s Robin Hood targets 9p on April 26 as its season two premiere date. Robin and his Outlaws continue to battle the evil Sheriff of Nottingham in this BBC America co-production with Tiger Aspect.

Premiere & Finale ratings:

  • TV Land’s Wednesday night premiere of reality show High School Reunion (10p) delivered a 0.4 rating and 426,000 viewers among A25-54 in addition to averaging 735,000 total viewers.
  • SCI FI Channel scored Wednesday night with its season four premiere of Ghost Hunters (9p) delivering 1.6 million A18-49, 1.7 million A2-54 and 2.7 million total viewers. The Destination Truth (10p) second season opener netted 970,000 A18-49, 1.0 million A25-54 and 1.7 million total viewers.
  • Also on Wednesday night, Bravo’s season four finale of Project Runway (10p) was the network’s most watched broadcast ever drawing in nearly 3.8 million A18-49 viewers.


Fuel TV

Even though Fox Cable Networks launched Fuel TV in 2003, this is the first time the action sports lifestyle network will offer an upfront presentation. The network is promoting these three series:

  • Built to Shred: Jeff King, builder of skatepark ramps and rails, creates crazy obstacles for skateboarders, snowboarders and BMXers to try out. Set to premiere September 28.
  • The Great Ride Open: the second season of this cross-country freestyle motocross ride starring X Game gold medalists. Also slated to debut September 28.
  • The Adventures of Danny and Dingo: Olympic snowboarder Danny Kass and snowboard announcer Dingo team up in this series scheduled to begin November 9.


Under the helm of VH1 ‘s new EVP/Programming and Development, Jeff Olde, the network has greenlit four new 30m “celebreality” sitcoms:

  • The Cho Show: A 7-episode show that marks the return of Margaret Cho to television in this reality sitcom that follows her navigating the entertainment industry. From Crossroads Television.
  • Luke’s Parental Advisory: This 8-episode reality show will give viewers a surprising look at the family man side of Luther “Luke” Campbell, known as the raunchiest man in Hip Hop. A VH1 production in collaboration with Pink Sneakers Productions.
  • New York Goes Hollywood: During 10 episodes New York works to conquer her next love: to be taken seriously as a legitimate actress. A production of Mindless Entertainment and 51 Pictures.
  • Brooke Hogan Knows Best: A 10-episode series that follows Hulk Hogan’s daughter as she moves to Miami to begin a new life of independence. A VH1 production in association with Pink Sneakers Productions.
  • VH1 will also premiere two new one-hour Rock Doc specials, The Night James Brown Saved Boston on April 5 and Elton John: Me, Myself and I on June 7 in addition to a new edition of VH1 Storytellers: Snoop Dogg on March 31.

NBC has given a script commitment to a new comedy project called My Problem with Women, based on a show that launched in Peru last July and in 20 other countries, reports THR. Starring in the project is Justin Timberlake as a bachelor in his 30s who goes to a therapist to try to identify why he has trouble in his relationships with women. The project comes from Reveille, who will co-produce with UK based Power and Frecuencia Latina International.

Casting Call: A new adventure-reality show, I Can Do That! for NBC is looking for thrill seekers interested in a life-changing adventure. Open casting is happening now in Boston and later in Tampa and Austin. The show will be a combination of The Amazing Race, Fear Factor and Survivor and the winning participant will have to have strength and wisdom to win a large cash prize. CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY:   Apple announced the next generation of the iPhone due out in June will support Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, meaning that the business world will now be able to use it for Blackberry-like functions such as syncing corporate email and calendars. (The company said Nike and Disney have already been testing the service internally.) Apple also officially opened up its internal APIs to allow 3rd party software developers to create applications utilizing the innovative “Cocoa Touch” interface. iTunes will become the exclusive online retail outlet for iPhone apps, some of which will be offered for free if in an ad supported model is chosen. CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY Hit Entertainment’s CEO, Bruce Steinberg said he would step down from his post after three years in that post.  Simultaneously, Hit announced Jeffrey D. Dunn would take over the reins as CEO.  Dunn, the former COO, Nickelodeon Networks and former President, Nickelodeon Film and Enterprises, MTV Networks, is charged with increasing Hit’s presence in North America and will be based in US, but will divide his time equally between NY and London.  Steinberg is credited with Hit’s considerable growth over the last several years.  Full edition: CYN KIDS.

Wednesday – A18-49 Analysis:  FOX dominated the field Wednesday night with 8.3/21 A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen Media Research. The first two hours were owned by FOX as American Idol posted a 10.4/27 and The Moment of Truth was buoyed to a 6.1/15 during 9p. Then at 10p, NBC’s Law & Order made it to first place with a 2.9/8.

Bruce Steinberg, CEO of Hit Entertainment Limited announced his resignation and the appointment of his successor, Jeffrey D. Dunn. Previously, Jeff was COO for Nickelodeon Networks and President/Nickelodeon Film and Enterprises at MTV Networks.  Congratulations Jeff!

Leaving the CBS Early Show is executive producer Shelley Ross, in that position for a little less than six months.  Stepping up to fill her chair for the time being is CBS Evening News with Katie Couric exec producer Rick Kaplan.

Former Game Show Network publicity executive, Dennis Johnson joined the NFL Network as Director/Communications. Dennis is charged with developing and executing communication and public relations strategies for the network. Based in Culver City, he begins his new post March 24.

Warner Bros. Entertainment elevated Steven Piorkowski to VP/Corporate Communications where he will work in tandem with the Corporate Communications group to develop messaging and positioning for internal and external audiences. Steven will handle corporate press releases, internal communications, presentations and speeches for corporate executives among other duties. He will continue to report to Susan N. Fleishman, EVP/Corporate Communications.
