Good Morning.  It’s Friday, March 21, 2008, and this is your first early morning briefing.

The FCC’s 700-Megahertz wireless spectrum auction closed Tuesday and accumulated nearly $19.6 billion in total bids for 754 total spectrum licenses. This spectrum auction was made available due to a government mandate that over-the-air broadcasters discontinue their analog signals by February 17, 2009. The biggest takers in the auction were Verizon Wireless and AT&T and when combined their bids equaled 83% of the total bids in the auction. EchoStar and Cox Communications bidding as Cox Wireless also picked up significant portions. According to the FCC results, less than 1% of the bids went to minority-owned businesses and none went to women-owned companies.

Season two of The Block returns to G4 on April 20 at 530p. The series which takes viewers inside at the hotels operated by and for snowboarders is back with all-new half-hour episodes and after the premiere moves to its normal time period of Sundays at 11p.

FOX is moving its new legal drama Canterbury’s Law from Monday nights at 8p to Fridays at 9p, flip flopping with encore episodes of House, beginning next week.

Correction : Myles of Style was erroneous listed here yesterday as premiering on the Food Network last night, when in fact it premiered on another Scripps network – HGTV, and can be seen there on Thursday nights. Our apologies for the confusion.

A CYNOPSIS MESSAGE FROM AMC

Simon Fuller, creator of American Idol, has a real-time medical drama pilot, Austin Golden Hour that has been picked up by The CW. The pilot is about a group of young emergency room surgeons and EMTs that work closely together and go through the crucial 60 minutes following a trauma. The drama also recounts their personal, interconnected relationships. Fuller’s 19 Entertainment and CBS Paramount Network TV are producing.

Former Senator Al D’Amato is reporting looking to get into the daytime talk business with his own court show series, reports THR. While no syndicator has paired up with the show, it is being actively shopped.  D’Amato is represented by Rebel Entertainment Partners.

A new comedy pilot from the team of Bob Odenkirk and David Cross is coming to HBO, reports THR. David’s Situation is co-written by Odenkirk and Cross, and will star Cross as a man who moves from Hollywood to the suburbs, living in a gated community with his two roommates. CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY: Despite all the pre-auction hype that Google was gunning for wireless spectrum, telcos AT&T and Verizon Wireless emerged as the big winners of the FCC’s license-mart, which raised a record $19.6 billion in proceeds. Verizon paid $4.7 billion for the C-block spectrum, giving it the space to launch a national wireless network the FCC says must be open to accommodate third-party applications. CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  Disney Channel will premiere Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream, a short-form reality series about the Jonas Brothers band from spring 2008.  Living the Dream will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the Jonas Brothers’ life on- and off-stage, including their parents and brother Frankie. CYNOPSIS INTERNATIONAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  The French have acquired the Gallic language, at least in Canada.  Canada’s French-language Groupe TVA has bought the remaining 80% of Gallic PPV channel Canal Indigo it did not previously own. Groupe TVA acquired 40% from Viewers Choice Canada (English-language PPV channel), 20% from French-language TQS and 20% from Cogeco Radio-Television.  The buy is subject to regulatory approval.   Full edition: CYN INTERNATIONAL. 

Wednesday – A18-49 Analysis:  FOX held steady in the top spot Wednesday night at 7.0/19 A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen Media Research. FOX’s lineup won the first two hours as The Moment of Truth was tops at 8p with 4.2/12 while American Idol racked up a 9.8/25 during 9p. NBC’s Law & Order walked away a winner at 10p with 3.0/8.

Karrie Wolfe’s position as SVP for RDF USA is expanding to include the scripted unit Pangea as well as the unscripted RDF USA. Karrie will seek out both scripted and nonscripted projects in markets worldwide.

MSG tapped Tina Cervasio as Host/Reporter for MSG and MSG Plus starting late this month. She will co-host the nightly program MSG, NY on MSG and will also contribute features for MSG and MSG Plus. Tina will also be a sideline reporter for the MLS New York Red Bulls matches that air on MSG.

Continental Television Sales, part of the Katz Television Group, upgraded Stuart Espy and Chris Joyce to Sales Manager. Stuart will handle sales for the Raiders team in Atlanta and Chris will manage the company’s Gold team in Chicago.

Karen Watson advanced to CCO and SVP/Global Communications with The Nielsen Company. Karen will now supervise communications functions between Nielsen and its focal audiences and stakeholders both internally and externally. Additionally, she will manage the company’s media relations, internal communications, client communications and public outreach throughout the world. Karen will report to Susan Whiting, EVP, The Nielsen Company.

Aaron Monty was upped to Marketing Manager for the Film and Soundtrack division of EMI Music Publishing. He manages the department’s physical and electronic marketing functions in addition to email marketing on behalf of the department among other duties. 

The independent public relations and marketing communications firm, Bender/Helper Impact rehired Pam Kulik as VP/Corporate Entertainment and Entertainment Technologies Group Practices. Pam was with BHI ten years ago and before returning worked for new media and technology companies.
