06/11/10

Good morning. It’s Friday, June 11, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

DreamWorks Animation, the USDA Forest Service and the Ad Council partner to launch a new series of tween-targeted public service announcements (PSAs) featuring Shrek characters that aim to get kids/tweens to spend more time outdoors with nature as part of the Re-connecting Kids with Nature campaign.  The PSAs, which will be distributed to 33,000 media outlets nationwide, will be introduced today at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, a day ahead of National Get Outdoors Day ( www.nationalgetoutdoorsday.org ).  Created pro bono by DreamWorks Animation and Turbine Boost, the PSAs direct kid/parents to DiscoverTheForest.org ( www.discovertheforest.org), where they can find suggested outdoor activities and educational and conservation information.  Kids/parents can also access an interactive tool (also available via mobile devices), powered by Nature Find and Google Maps, where they can search for nearby forests and parks to explore.  Additionally, the Brigham Young University Ad Lab developed a second series of radio, outdoor and online ads to further reach tweens with the messaging.

Friday Fun Fact:
Each American President has had a personal piano — with the exception of Gerald Ford and George Bush.

Answer to Yesterday’s Trivia:   Jimmy Walker often had a special item with him he considered lucky.  He used it when auditioning for a film and when he got the part, considered the win was due to this item.  He had the item with him often, including on the show Good Times and Bustin’ Loose.  What was the item?  THAT FLOPPY BLUE HAT YOU ALWAYS SAW HIM WEAR ON TELEVISION – PURCHASED AT A SUBWAY VENDOR, STOMPED ON TO BREAK IT IN A BIT, AND WORN TO HIS VERY FIRST AUDITION  Kudos to: Barry Solomon-Retailability Inc./NY; Pat Brady-CESD/LA

Today’s Trivia Question:  Dooley the Leprechaun was featured on what Saturday morning series?  (Email [email protected] with your answer and be sure to include your name, company, city and time zone. Unofficial rules: Only the second four correct answers from each time zone will be mentioned; and once you’ve been mentioned in any of the Cynopsis editions, you can’t be mentioned again that calendar week.)
