Cynopsis: Kids!

06/10/11

Good morning. It’s Friday, June 10, 2011, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Moonscoop will bring Code Lyoko to life in a new live-action and 3D version of its animated series, with co-production partners France Television and Canal J.  This new season, the series fifth, will be comprised of 26×26.  The original animated series (four seasons, 97×26), was produced as a mixed 2D and 3D animated series.  In addition, following Code Lyoko game releases for Nintendo DS, PS2, PSP and Wii, Moonscoop is developing a MMORPG (Massively Multi-player Online Role-Playing Game) in collaboration with CJ Internet.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Production has begun in Hollywood on the new Disney Channel comedy Jessie, which is set to premiere this fall.  Jessie stars Debby Ryan (The Suite Life on Deck, 16 Wishes) as an idealistic teen from rural Texas who moves to NYC to work as a nanny for the four kids of high profile couple.  The series also stars Kevin Chamberlin (Broadway’s The Addams Family), Peyton List (27 Dresses, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules), Karan Brar (Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies), Cameron Boyce (Grown Ups), and Skai Jackson (Royal Pains).  Created by Pamela Eells O’Connell (Family Matters, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, The Suite Life on Deck), who also serves as executive producer, Jessie is from It’s a Laugh Productions.

MORE KIDS STUFF

Winx Club comes to Nickelodeon, beginning Monday, June 27, at 8p.  The Italian 2D/CG-animated property from Rainbow makes its Nickelodeon debut with 4×60 specials, which will premiere monthly through the follow, followed later this year with a weekly series of seasons three and four of Winx Club.  The four specials are culled from the first two seasons of the series, which feature visual effects.  The series features the voices of Nickelodeon stars Keke Palmer (True Jackson, VP) as Aisha, Elizabeth Gillies (Victorious) as Daphne, Ariana Grande (Victorious) as Diaspro, and Matt Shively (True Jackson, VP) as Skye, as well as Molly Quinn (Castle as Bloom.  Additionally, Cymphonique Miller (upcoming series How To Rock) performs the show’s theme song.  Nickelodeon and Rainbow are currently in production on 52 additional episodes (seasons five and six) of original 2D/CG-animated series, which are slated to bow in 2012.  To support the specials, from June 23, kids can go to Nick.com (www.nick.com) to play the animated game Winx Club: Enchantrix.  Additionally, Petpet Park, Nick’s virtual life fantasy world based on Neopets’ characters, will offer a special virtual item giveaway.  Players who visit Petpet Park from June 16-30 will receive a free Winx Club magical charm bracelet for their Petpets.

Nerd Corps Entertainment‘s new 3D HD action/sci-fi/comedy series Slugterrainea (39×22) has been acquired by Disney XD for its channels around the world.  Under the deal, Disney XD takes the cable rights for the US and globally, with Nerd Corps retaining the terrestrial rights for the rest of the world.  Currently in development, Slugterrainea is slated to debut in 2012.  Additionally, to support the series and further introduce the world of Slugterrainea, Nerd Corps is producing 39×1-minute slugisodes for TV and web.  Set deep in a high-tech underground world, the series revolves around Elias Shane, who is determined to be the greatest Slugslinging hero ever, and his crew as they explore many caverns, challenge rivals, and upgrade their gear and so forth.  Only by collecting, training and dueling with little critters called Slugs, which have the ability to transform into magical beasts, can Elias and his team defeat the forces of evil.  Nerd Corps is in discussions with several partners to extend the brand to toys, interactive, publishing and other long-lead categories.  Nerd Corps has also entered into a deal with Juli Boylan, Mark Matheny and Peter Maule to assist with the retail and merchandise strategy for the series and help with its launch at 2011 Licensing Expo next week.
