Cynopsis: Kids!
07/27/12
Good morning. It’s Friday, July 27, 2012, and this your first early morning briefing.
Australia-based SLR Productions teams with Network Ten (Australia), ZDF Enterprises (German), Screen Australia and the South Australian Film Corporation to produce its new K8-12 targeted, live-action adventure comedy series Sam Fox: Extreme Adventures (26×24). Based on the action/adventure books by noted kid’s book author Justin D’Ath, the Sam Fox: Extreme Adventures series revolves around teen Sam Fox, who described as a ‘danger magnet’, as he goes up against various wild animals and the elements on his adventures. Suzanne Ryan, Executive Producer, Producer and CEO of SLR Productions, describes the series as “Bear Grylls meets extreme boy scouting.” Sam Fox: Extreme Adventures will premiere on Network Ten (no dates yet) and will be produced in South Australia at the new film studios at the South Australian Film Corporation. The series will be distributed internationally by ZDF Enterprises.

Nickelodeon cruises to Asia – literally. Star Cruises, an Asia-Pacific cruise line, and Viacom International Media Networks Asia expand their partnership to launch the first Nickelodeon At Sea cruises in Asia. The new cruises will debut with trips targeted to families with end of the year vacations from November 2012, which are co-sponsored by Mondial Assistance. The series of 55 Nickelodeon At Sea cruises will kick off in trips on the SuperStar Virgo from Singapore (November 16-December 30, 2012) and SuperStar Libra from Penang, Malaysia (November 11 – December 30, 2012). The Nickelodeon at Sea on Star Cruises will feature Nickelodeon-themed rooms, souvenirs and meals, and offer an array of Nickelodeon and character-themed activities and shows, including character meet and greets, afternoon tea events, arts and crafts activities, treasure hunts and, of course, slime involved events. The new Nickelodeon At Sea Cruises build off Star Cruises and Nickelodeon’s success with the SpongeBob at Sea cruises introduced in 2011.

Sesame Workshop teams with Equal Access International, a non-profit communications for social change organization, to offer original Sesame Street radio programming in Afghanistan. Under the partnership 78 radio episodes based on the TV series Baghch-e-Simsim (Sesame Garden), will broadcast on Radio Nawa and 30+ local FM stations in central and remote provinces of Afghanistan. Baghch-e-Simsim radio debuts this week in Afghanistan, with episodes airing each week in both the Dari and Pashto languages on the evenings on Thursdays and Fridays. The Baghch-e-Simsim TV series began airing on Tolo TV and Lemar TV in December 2011, and features Muppets from Sesame Street to help educate young kids there, just as the do elsewhere. According to the two organizations there are nearly 5 million kids under the age of five in Afghanistan, with only a small portion of those served by its kindergarten school system. Radio continues to be the most accessible media for the average household in Afghanistan. The radio version of the series is produced in consultation with Afghanistan’s Ministry of Education and Ministry of Social Affairs. Baghch-e-Simsim is made possible through the support of the US Department of State.
