Cynopsis

07/21/06

Good morning. It’s Friday, July 21, 2006, and this is your first early morning briefing.

Has Youtube.com become the internet version of Schwab’s Drugstore?  The defunct WB comedy pilot Nobody’s Watching showed up on YouTube.com about a month ago, and has now been “discovered” by NBC.  The network is expected to announce today that it has ordered six scripts and will create a series of viral videos to promote the show, says Variety.  The videos could be seen on the internet as early as this fall. The pilot stars Paul Campbell and Tarran Killam as two fans of sitcom TV who end up in a reality show.  The project is from NBC Universal TV Studio.

* MORE GOOD STUFF *

Early next year, the Sundance Channel will launch Sundance Channel Green, a weekly primetime block with content focused on the environment. Starting with three hours of hosted programming, the new eco-friendly network will present original series and documentaries about the earth’s ecology and how humans can live a balanced “green” lifestyle. The first original series is Change Agents, a character-driver documentary series about the people and projects on the front lines of environment innovation.  The announcement was made by Sundance founder and environmental activist, Robert Redford.

Discovery Communications has added a new component to its Discovery News service: daily video webcasts featuring breaking news on topics that pertain to Discovery’s programming, such as the story about the discovery of a baby triceratops skull fossil in Montana. The news service will offer viewers quick informative stories about science, nature, health, travel, environmental issues and current affairs. Links to the webcasts can be found at www.discovery.com or directly at the Discovery News site at www.discoverychannelnews.com.

TV Guide Channel will debut the second season of TV Candy on July 30 at 8p. Hosted by Melissa Rivers, the one-hour show transforms everyday individuals to become their favorite current TV characters like Bree Van De Kamp from Desperate Housewives or Christopher from The Sopranos.

AT&T will add the Viacom Networks to its young U-Verse digital television service.  The deal includes Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central, VH1, Spike, BET, TV Land and CMT among others.  Thus far, U-verse is only available in 5,000 San Antonio homes, with future plans to expand next into Houston. Other content providers working with U-Verse include the Turner networks, Fox, Disney, Discovery, NBC Universal and A&E/History.  The U-Verse service launched on June 26, and hopes to be in 19 million homes by the end of 2008.

* PRODUCTION / DEVELOPMENT / CASTING *

Fox has given a put pilot commitment to a project from 20th TV and Roundtable Entertainment called Blue Blood about a rookie NYPD cop.  The story is based on the autobiography of Ed Conlon, a Harvard grad who decides to return to NYC and just like numerous family members before him – become a cop.

MyNetworkTV has cast Tatum O’Neal in the leading role of the primetime drama Art of Betrayal. She will portray Blythe who plots revenge against the ex-husband who left her 20 years ago. Produced by Twentieth Television, the program will premiere in December and 65 episodes will air Monday through Friday for 13 weeks. Recap episodes will air each Saturday.

Casting Call:  A new HGTV series is looking for DIY-ers who have flunked out on their projects and need rescuing. They want young, energetic couples and families in the Los Angeles area who have taken on more than they imagined with their do-it-yourself projects. The producers ask that no kitchen or bathroom projects be submitted. For more information visit the web site at: www.overyourhead.tv

Friday Fun Fact:  The human heart rests between beats. In an average lifetime of 70 years, the total resting time is estimated to be about 40 years.

The History Channel presents This Day in History:
1861 – In the first major land battle of the Civil War, a large Union army commanded by General Irvin McDowell is routed by Confederate forces under General Pierre G.T. Beauregard.  Many in the north believed that the Confederacy would be swiftly defeated.  Learning of the impending battle at Manassas junction, near Washington, D.C., civilians turned out in force to picnic and watch the battle.  When McDowell’s badly trained force was routed, the picnickers fled in panic.  It was at this battle that Confederate General Thomas J. Jackson earned his nickname “Stonewall,” which referred to his men holding their ground under repeated Federal assaults.
