Nickelodeon US commissions a second season of the live-action mystery/adventure series House of Anubis. Set to begin production on 45×30 new episodes this month in Liverpool, England, the new season will rollout in a daily Monday-Friday format in 2012. The US version of the Nickelodeon international series has been recreated and recast for the US. Season two will include several new characters.
Cartoon Network continues to seek new creative talent across Asia Pacific by expanding its existing SNAPTOON (Short New Asia Pacific Cartoons) project to Singapore in partnership with Singapore’s Media Development Authority (MDA). An initiative to identify new original series from professional and new animators and animation studios in Asia Pacific, SNAPTOONS previously launched in India, Malaysia and Australia. Through its latest SNAPTOONS effort, Cartoon Network aims to invest in new Singapore-based creative talent and develop their new animated ideas for kids content, which reflects the network’s mission to be fun, funny, surprising and fearless. Of the creative pitches submitted to the SNAPTOONS project (not through September 30, 2011) in Singapore, up to ten pitches will be shortlisted, based on their development potential, with up to five eventually created into broadcast quality shorts. Disney is working on a new action/adventure movie based on the Matterhorn Disneyland ride and has signed Jason Dean Hall to write the script, per Heat Vision. Justin Springer (Tron Legacy) is producing the movie, currently titled The Hill (working title), which revolves around five tweens/teens who are drawn to the top of the mountain where they meet up with a Yeti.
Disney Channel and Disney XD celebrate summer with two nights of warm-weather themed premiere episodes. Disney Channel gets summer swinging at the shore on Sunday, July 24, 7:30-9p, with beach-themed episodes of Wizards of Waverly Place, Shake It Up and Good Luck Charlie. The following day, Monday, July 25, 7:30p-9:30p, Disney XD hosts Sizzlin’ Summer Monday, which will feature new episodes of Kick Buttowski Suburban Daredevil, Pair of Kings, Kickin’ It and Zeke and Luther. In other Disney XD programming, this Sunday, July 3, the network will premiere the music video for its summer programming, We Burnin’ Up, which was co-written by Adam Hicks (Zeke and Luther, Lemonade Mouth) and performed by Hicks and Chris Brochu (Lemonade Mouth). Additionally, DisneyXD.com ( www.disneyxd.com ) will debut its new multi-series online game, Summer Balloon Battle Royale.
Discovery Familia, a Spanish-language network, will feature special episodes of the preschool-targeted series Hi-5, beginning Monday, July 11 at 12:30p. The Hi-5 series will then air Monday-Friday at 12:30p for throughout the year, following the completion of the summer specials. The educational series invites viewers on learning adventures from a Safari in Africa to exploring the underwater world. Hi-5 is a production of Kids Like Us and Nine Films & Television. The series is produced by Helena Harris (creator of Bananas in Pyjamas and Posie Graeme-Evans).
Zodiak Kids, the kid’s production/distribution arm of Zodiak Media Group, expands distribution of its live-action, comedy series Summer In Transylvania (20×30) to include Nickelodeon in Germany, Italy, Benelux, Nordic, Spain and Portugal. Summer In Transylvania originally premiered on Nickelodeon in the UK. The series follows the exploits of popular schoolgirl Summer Farley, who moves to Transylvania when her family is relocated there. Summer is faced with monstrous new challenges in her new home, including learning to deal with a community made up of zombies, werewolves, vampires and mummies. Summer in Transylvania is produced by The Foundation, part of Zodiak Kids, for Nickelodeon UK. Zodiak Rights owns worldwide rights to the show. Created and written by Andy Watts (creator – My Parents Are Aliens) and produced by Candida Julian-Jones (Kerching!, Gina’s Laughing Gear, Class), the series is executive produced by The Foundation’s Nigel Pickard.

HIT Entertainment teams with jewelry design label Molly Brown to create the first Angelina Ballerina collection. Available exclusively at Selfridges in the UK beginning Saturday 2 July, the new Angelina Ballerina-inspired line includes pendants, lockets and charm bracelets. The line will then launch at select department stores and independent retailers across the UK from Saturday 16 July. The CGI animated Angelina Ballerina: The Next Steps airs on Nick. Jr UK. Earlier this year Mattel launched a new Angelina Ballerina CGI product line in the UK at John Lewis.
Seventeen magazine and ABC Family partner to launch Delete Digital Drama, a youth-targeted, multi-tiered pro-social campaign designed to build awareness of the issue of online bullying. The multi-platform initiative, which kicks off Tuesday, July 5 in print, on-air and online, will also provide outreach via Seventeen magazine and ABC Family media assets, and through partnerships with Verizon and specialty retailer Charlotte Russe. Some of the efforts to support Delete Digital Drama include:
- The August issue of Seventeen, available July 5, will focus on Delete Digital Drama
- Also on July 5, ABC Family will begin airing an awareness announcement, featuring the network’s stars, which encourages Millennials to do their part in helping to put an end to digital drama.
- Seventeen and ABC Family will also support the initiative on their specific Delete Digital Drama pages at Seventeen.com (
- ABC Family will also debut a new Public Service Announcement during the premiere of Cyberbully featuring its star, Emily Osment. The PSA will direct viewers to StompoutBullying.org (www.stompoutbullying.org ).
- New campaign-specific t-shirts with the word [delete] on them will be available at Charlotte Russe stores and online from July 5. All proceeds will go to the nonprofit Stop Out Bullying. The retailer will also offer a Delete Digital Drama sweepstakes on the Charlotte Russe Facebook page.
- Verizon debut its text campaign on July 5, asking its wireless customers to text “Delete” to 3332 to pledge their support to end online bullying. Additionally, Verizon will premiere the Delete Digital Drama awareness announcement on FiOS TV, as well as via its V CAST video on Demand.
