~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & CARRIAGE ~

National Geographic Networks birthed a new nonfiction entertainment network for US Hispanics, Nat Geo Mundo.  The Spanish-language network launches nationally today reaching four million US homes this year.  Nat Geo Mundo’s lineup includes original programming in the genres of nature, science, culture and history and starting today and through this weekend, the schedule includes various specials concentrating on Latin American Independence.  Also, Nat Geo Mundo premieres a handful of series: National Geographic’s series The Dog Whisperer, airing Monday through Thursday and starting today at 7p; Rescate Al Limite, a docu-reality series beginning July 5 at 9p; and on July 7 at 9p the weekly series Don’t Tell My Mother following journalist Diego Bunuel as he travels through war-torn countries in search of powerful human stories.  Nat Geo Mundo is initially available in select homes via AT&T U-verse TV, Cox, DISH Network and Verizon FiOS.

This fall, several Tribune broadcasting stations premiere a new national food and travel show, America’s Best Bites.  Hosted by Ted Brunson and Natalie Forte, the weekly show follows the duo as they find reasonably-priced foods across America relying on viewer feedback from Facebook and Twitter.  The half-hour weekend show will air on WPIX/New York, KTLA/Los Angeles and WGN/Chicago.  Chicago-based Oak Brook Productions, behind the WGN-TV show Chicago’s Best, produces the series.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Former FOX’s Dollhouse star, Dichen Lachman landed a role on Syfy’s original drama series Being Human from Muse Entertainment.  Lachman will play Izumi, a reclusive, ancient vampire royal who returns to Boston’s vampire society causing upheaval for Aidan (Sam Witwer) and the city.  Production on season two begins this month in Montreal with the series set to debut in 2012.

The updated Arthurian legend related in television series Camelot will not see a second season. Starz indicated the drama starring Joseph Fiennes, Jamie Campbell Bower and Eva Green had “significant production challenges” and the premium network decided to not exercise the option for a renewal with producers GK-tv, Octagon Films and Take 5 Productions.
