Cynopsis: Kids!
01/13/12

Good morning. It’s Friday, January 13, 2012, and this your first early morning briefing.

Captain Underpants returns!  Scholastic unveils plans to publish two new titles in the Captain Underpants book series by author Dav Pilkey.  The first of the new books, Captain Underpants and the Terrifying Return of Tippy Tinkletrousers will release on August 28, 2012, followed by Captain Underpants and the Revolting Revenge of the Radioactive Robo-Boxers in January 2013. Additionally, Scholastic will release the first Dav Pilkey e-books, two titles in the Super Diaper Baby graphic novel series, The Adventures of Super Diaper Baby and Super Diaper Baby 2: The Invasion of the Potty Snatchers, on January 31, 2012.  The two Super Diaper e-books will feature bonus material about the making of the books, as well as samples of sketches by Pilkey, and deleted scenes, among other things.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Tele Images productions, a division of Zodiak Kids, inks pre-sale deals in key European markets for its new animated series, Secret Ranch. In addition to France where the series has been acquired by TF1, Teletoon+ and Equidia (the horse-centric cable and satellite channel), the German public channels ARD and KI.KA and Italy’s De A Kids have signed on to co-produce Secret Ranch (26×22). Developed with the support of TF1, Secret Ranch follows the adventures of four teens (two girls and two boys) who share a passion for horseback riding. When one of them encounters a wild stallion who has been injured, she decides to adopt him and, with the help of her friends, to create a ranch in the wild to rescue him and other horses. Pre-production has begun on Secret Ranch, with a budget of US $7.6 million, which is slated to deliver in spring 2013. Zodiak Kids will distribute Secret Ranch worldwide. Video rights will be handled by TF1.

Canadian animation studio Yowza is teaming with Canadian-based publisher OwlKids and CBC Television (Canada) to develop the new animated TV series Chirp.  The series is based on the interactive educational Chirp magazine and will also feature a digital component.
