MTV’s reality series Making The Band 4, Season 2 returns January 28 at 10p. A sneak preview special Battle of The Sexes: A Making The Band First Look will air January 19 at 1p. In the new season, the band selected by Diddy reunites, along with the surprise solo winner Donnie. Joining them will be the winners of Making The Band 3, Danity Kane and it will become a race to see which group finishes their album first. The series is produced by Bad Boy Entertainment. Young Broadcasting Inc. hired financial advisors Moelis & Company to help with the sale of television station, KRON/San Francisco. Young Broadcasting wants to finalize an agreement for the sale of KRON-TV before the end of first quarter. Young Broadcasting purchased KRON-TV in 2000 and in 2006 the station became a MyNetworkTV affiliate. CBS Corporation completed the sale of television stations in four markets to Four Points Media Group, LLC, a division of Cerberus Capital Management, L.P. for $185 million in cash. This deal completes CBS’ previously announced local TV station and radio station divestitures. To date since December 2006, CBS has sold 39 radio stations in 10 markets and 11 TV stations in seven markets for a total of $922 million. CBS still owns 29 TV stations and 140 radio stations. ~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~
Returning this summer to ABC is The Bachelorette, from Warner Horizon Television and Next Entertainment, reports Variety. No word yet on who our bachelorette will be. On the flip side, The Bachelor is expected to return in early spring. FX new drama pilot project Sons of Anarchy, fka Forever Sam Crow, about a twentysomething guy who is working on balancing life in his motorcycle club (Sons of Anarchy) with his new young family, has cast the three lead roles, reports THR. Charlie Hunnam plays our young male star; Scott Glenn plays his stepfather, and Katey Sagal his mother. Signed on to direct is Allen Coulter. CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY reporting this week from CES in Las Vegas: For a company that doesn’t have an official presence at CES, it’s startling how much buzz Apple is generating at the show. The latest speculation is that Warner Bros. will be among the studios jumping on board the iTunes movie rental model Apple is set to announce next week at MacWorld, joining Fox, Paramount, Disney and LionsGate. Titles are expected to cost $3.99 for 24 hours, according to unnamed sources from Bloomberg, viewable on computers, iPods and large screen TVs via the slow-selling Apple TV (which should get quite a boost from the service.) Meanwhile the rumor that Apple is ready to unveil to a Yellow Submarine version of the iPod, preloaded with the entire Beatles catalogue, has resurfaced once again. Full edition: CYN DIGITAL. CYN OPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY: Best known as a publisher of horror, action, and sci-fi comic books and graphic novels, IDW Publishing is launching a kid’s division titled Jonas Publishing and imprint called Worthwhile Books. In launching the new imprint IDW has inked deals with Hollywood writers and producers to pen kid’s books, in addition to entering into a first-look agreement with UK kid’s publisher Meadowside Books. Worthwhile will be the exclusive US publisher of select Meadowside titles and will retain domestic film and TV rights to those properties. The first Meadowside title, of the 10 or-so books a year Worthwhile intends to publish, is Michael Recycle, by Ellie Bethel, about an environmental hero will be published in March. CYN OPSIS INTERNATIONAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY: Dufferin Gate Productions Inc. now fully belongs to Toronto’s Peace Arch Entertainment Group Inc. after the latter completed the acquisition of the remaining 59.99% of the shares. PeaceArch initially acquired 40.01% of Dufferin Gate in July 2007. Under the terms of the deal, Peace Arch acquired all of the shares of Dufferin Gate for approximately CAD $5.4 million in cash plus CAD $600,000 in common shares of Peace Arch.
