Cynopsis: Kids!
2/02/07
Good morning. It’s Friday, February 2, 2007 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing.
While Harry Potter fans and others have been wildly predicting and/or hoping for a symbolic publishing date for Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows, the seventh and final book in the series, of July 7, 2007 (as in the seventh book on 07/07/07), it was not to be. JK Rowling and her publishers revealed yesterday that The Deathly Hallows will be released at 12:01a on July 21, 2007. While Rowling has said that a character will meet their end in the upcoming tome, she may actually have been referring to consumer wallets as Deathly Hallows, in its hard bound edition will sell in the US for $34.99, and one can only think the price tag is but a foreshadowing for the number of pages contained. No sooner was the publishing date announced then Amazon.com and Barnesandnoble.com began accepting pre-orders for the book, much discounted rates of course. But if you want to go whole hog(warts) consider springing for the deluxe edition of the HP7, which will be published simultaneously, and will run ya $65 in the US.
That big football game featuring da Chicago Bears v. the Indianapolis Colts is scheduled for this Sunday on CBS, but the competition has already gotten under way in a one-time only “got milk?” print ad appearing in today’s issue of USA Today. As part of the Body By Milk campaign, the annual football “got milk?” ad features Rex Grossman (quarterback/da Bears) and Marvin Harrison (wide receiver/Colts) face to face, arms crossed and holding a glass of milk, and of course each sporting milk mustaches. There are a couple of lines of copy on the ad: the first is at the top of the ad (between player’s heads) and reads, “Sunday, it all goes down on.” The copy at the bottom of the page says, “Who’s thirstier? We’ll find out on game day. Until then, getting the nine essential nutrients from milk is one move we’ll both be practicing.” I’m thinking chili must have those same nutrients.
MORE KIDS STUFF
PBS Kids will debut new episodes of the animated preschool series Curious George the week of February 19-23, 2007. The new episodes coincide with the release of the first DVD featuring episodes from the series (see below).
MARKETING/LICENSING
The new animated TV Curious George series will debut on DVD when Universal Studios Home Entertainment release Curious George: Zoo Night and Other Animal Stories on February 20 2007. Eagle One Media, Inc. has inked a licensing deal with World Events Production, for the rights to produce a set of Voltron: Defender of the Universe animated digital comics for release on DVD. Under the pact, Eagle One Media will produce these Voltron animated digital comics using both artwork and story content from Voltron comic books, from Devil’s Due Publishing. Each release will feature two versions of the stories, one with the traditional comic book word balloons simultaneous to the dialog voice-over and the other minus balloons. The DVDs will run from 75-100 minutes, with the first title Voltron: Defender of the Universe Revelations, scheduled to be released in June 2007. The animated Voltron TV series airs daily on Cartoon Network, meanwhile World Event Productions is developing an interactive Voltron series and is expected to unveil plans for a movie based on the property soon.
