This statement from CBS was sent out late last evening in regard to future production of Two and a Half Men: Based on the totality of Charlie Sheen’s statements, conduct and condition, CBS and Warner Bros. Television have decided to discontinue production of “Two and a Half Men” for the remainder of the season.
British chef Gordon Ramsay will continue to helm another season of Hell’s Kitchen on FOX as the network renewed the series for two more seasons. FOX will commence production on seasons nine and ten this spring with the ninth season opening in late summer. The most recent run of Hell’s Kitchen averaged a 2.9 rating among A18-49 along with more than 6 million total viewers.
A second season renewal notice handed to The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret by IFC. The network gave its original comedy series a six-episode order that will debut in October. Production on the new episodes begins in April. The series is a co-production between IFC and RDF Television, a unit of Zodiak Media Group in the UK.
OWN moved quickly to grant a second six-episode season for its new docu-series Our America with Lisa Ling. The series launched its inaugural season earlier this month and the second episode on Tuesday delivered a 0.51 rating among W25-54 and 733,000 total viewers. The series is produced by part2pictures.
TBS opted to not renew Glory Daze for a sophomore season. The one-hour comedy series set in the 1980s, attracted 1.1 million total viewers and posted a 0.6 rating with A18-49 for its January finale episode. These ratings figures reflect a downward trend from 1.8 million total viewers and a 1.0 rating with A18-49 for its premiere episode last November.
In anticipation of Sunday’s Academy Awards telecast, ABC extended its contract with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for six more years through 2020. The current contract was due to expire in 2014 and this extension insures ABC will carry the Oscars for a total of 46 years. This year marks ABC’s 36th consecutive telecast and Sunday’s 83rd Annual Academy Awards airs at 830p preceded by ABC’s live Red Carpet show at 7p.
The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences said yesterday it is combining the miniseries and made-for-TV-movie categories for the 2011 Primetime Emmy Awards. The new merged category will also have six nominees rather than five.
MIPTV 2011:
MarVista Entertainment picked up five new television films, debuting all at MIPTV. The five titles include Lies and Deceit, A Memory of Lies, Help Me, Help You, The Dark Horse and Redemption and will be added to MarVista’s library of television movies.
FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME) is taking three BBC dramas to this year’s MIPTV including Laconia with 2 eps/90m; The Crimson Petal and the White with 4 eps/60m or 2 eps/120m; and Exile with 3 eps/60 min or 2 eps/90m.
ION Television acquired 65 new theatrical titles from Universal Pictures, MGM and Sony Pictures for the network’s Big Movie Weekend. ION’s deal with NBCUniversal Domestic TV Distribution includes 31 titles from Universal Pictures such as Baby Mama, Ray, Fast & Furious and Couples Retreat; MGM’s package contains 22 titles such as Dances with Wolves, Valkyrie and all five films in the Rocky franchise; and the Sony Pictures Television portion contains more than 12 titles including A Few Good Men, Stand By Me and Jumanji. The movies begin airing on ION next month through 2013.
Two channels, Sportsman Channel and NEO Cricket were added to Cablevision System Corporation’s iO Sports & Entertainment Pak. NEO Cricket is also included in the new iO South Asian package. Cablevision’s iO Sports & Entertainment Pak now has 22 networks.
Splash News, based in Hollywood and a provider of entertainment and celebrity news, is expanding its operations globally by establishing a new video digital production division in its London office. The service will offer more localized productions for the company’s video news program, Splash News TV and will also allow the company to provide video updates from around the world to UK audiences in local time.
Eyetronics Media and Studios, specializing in 3D scanning and modeling for films, videogames and commercials, formed an internal production/distribution unit to launch Classic Cool, a retro programming brand. Classic Cool gives broadcasters and digital media customized content from interstitials, shorts and half-hour series to complete programming blocks consisting of classic films, documentaries and original retro-themed series.
