Smart Bomb Interactive, a developer/publisher of family-aimed games partners with JLK Brand Licensing Group to grow its kid-targeted National Geographic Animal Jam (www.animaljam.com) virtual world and game offline. With an emphasis on the natural world, self-expression and having some fun, the browser-based Animal Jam game features content from National Geographic, including videos, Q&As with scientists, and a range of downloadable content – as well as offering safety technology and parental controls. Under the deal, JLK will seek licensing deals across categories such as toys and publishing. Currently the Animal Jam online store features wristbands, t-shirts, posters, stickers and gift certificates for in-game bonus gems and memberships.

LICENSING
Warner Bros. Consumer Products UK (WBCP UK) signs new apparel licensing deals for The Hobbit Trilogy with TV Mania and Fabric Flavours, which will debut t-shirt collections at retail in the UK this month to coincide with the theatrical release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. TV Mania will offer t-shirts featuring characters and artwork based on the movies for kids/tweens 3-14, which will be available at Next stores and online via play.com. Fabric Flavours’ retro t-shirt collection for kids and adults will be available in the UK at independent boutiques and department stores including Harrods, Selfridges and Harvey Nichols. The first of a trilogy of movies from filmmaker/screenwriter/producer Peter Jackson is based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, is a production of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures (MGM). New Line is managing production for The Hobbit movie trilogy. Warner Bros. Pictures is handling worldwide theatrical distribution, with MGM handling select international territories as well as international TV distribution for the films.
Disney inks a program license pact with The Jim Henson Company for its preschool series Pajanimals (52×11), which will be seen on Disney Junior platforms in EMEA and Latin America – specifically across France, Italy, Benelux, Central and Eastern Europe, Israel, Turkey, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. Pajanimals is set to broadcast on Disney Junior EMEA platforms beginning this month in morning and afternoon time slots, with some markets planning nightly evening programming blocks developed around the Pajanimals’ bedtime themes. Pajanimals was also recently been licensed to ABC (Australia) and TVNZ (New Zealand) – with further broadcast deals to be announced soon.
The Hub will bring the first season of Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters to a close with the premiere of a two-part story, The Rising. The first part of The Rising will debut tomorrow, Saturday, December 8, at 2p, followed the next week by part 2 on Saturday, December 15 at 2p. Additionally, tomorrow the network will also feature new episodes of Dan Vs at 4p and a back-to-back two-part episode R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour: The Series, The Golem, at 6p and 6:30p.
Sprout TV will feature the animated specials The Gruffalo and the US premiere of The Gruffalo’s Child this month as part of its holiday programming lineup. The two half-hour animated movies from Magic Light Picture will air back-to-back on Sprout on December 22, December 26 and December 27 at 1p, 9p and 12a. Additionally, The Gruffalo Live Show will launch in North America in early 2013 (http://tallstories.org.uk/shows/the-gruffalo). Furthermore, a new Gruffalo website for the US has been set up at www.gruffalo.us.
Disney/ABC Television Group‘s Digital Media team launches Disney Super Speedway, a new racer game app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The new game features animated characters from Disney Channel series, including Phineas and Ferb, Gravity Falls and Fish Hooks, and Disney XD’s Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja, Kick Buttowski Suburban Daredevil and Motorcity. The game is also available at www.disneychannel.com/race and www.disneyxd.com/race. In the game players can start out as one of three characters, Phineas (Phineas and Ferb), Kick (Kick Buttowski) or Milo (Fish Hooks) – earning credits along the way to unlock other characters as they make their way in three circuits and nine different tracks and unlocking various challenges and upgrading their vehicles. Token packs range in price from $.99 – $9.99, and are available through in-app purchase.
Beeline Interactive, a developer/publisher of smartphone games, debuts its new Smurf Life app for iOS devices. A follow up to the Smurfs’ Village, the new freemium game finds the Smurfs’ village in trouble, with Gargamel casting a magical storm spell and creating chaos. Players, who can choose to play as a male of female, must explore the village, overcome obstacles and learn a trade as they help The Smurfs break the spell and set things right.
