~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

HISTORY is moving forward with a reality series based on the descendants of the famous feuding families, the Hatfields and the McCoys produced by Wild Eyes Productions.  The original feud took place in the late 19th century in Tug Fork, the area along the Kentucky and West Virginia border.  In 2003, a truce was declared between the two families.  This news comes after HISTORY aired its successful six-hour miniseries, Hatfields & McCoys, starring Kevin Costner, Bill Paxton and Tom Berenger that averaged 14 million viewers across three nights.  HISTORY is also developing another six-hour miniseries about the Texas Rangers called Texas Rising from Hatfields & McCoys EP Leslie Greif and co-writer Ted Mann.

Soon after Tyler Perry signed an overall deal for scripted fare at OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, details on two series has emerged, per THR.  Perry will write, direct and executive produce a multi-camera comedy titled Love Thy Neighbor set at Love’s Diner where every day the menu serves up good food, great laughs, life lessons and love for the eclectic neighbors.  The second project is a drama titled The Haves and the Have Nots centered on the dynamics of the affluent Cyrer family and the poverty-stricken family of their housekeeper, Hanna and the obstacles and secrets that exist within both.  Details on how many episodes each series will receive and other production personnel were not disclosed.

Film entertainment company Exclusive Media, with offices in Los Angeles and London, has established a television division and forged a global first-look development and distribution deal withFremantleMedia Enterprises.  Exclusive Media Television (EMTV) will be headed by Exclusive Media Vice Chairman and Hammer President Simon Oakes.  The new deal gives FME a first-look on all of EMTV’s commissioned programs to distribute globally.

Former X-Files star Gillian Anderson has joined the cast of NBC’s Hannibal for a handful of episodes.  Anderson will play the personal therapist of the titular Dr. Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen).

~ INTERNATIONAL HAPPENINGS ~

Canadian French language television network V licensed the original diving format, Stars In Danger: High Diving from Banijay International.  The format will be produced locally by La Presse Tele to premiere in winter/spring 2013.  Pre-production on the one-hour episodes begins immediately with shooting set to begin in early 2013.

Azteca, producer of Spanish-language television programming has expanded its pay-TV network Azteca International in the central region of Quebec.  The signal launched on December 5 through integrated communications company Videotron, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Quebecor Media Inc.
