If you have never been to a First event, you should it is very cool and thousands of kids from elementary school through college take part boys and girls and it isn’t just a nerdy thing.
NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
Disney taps Michael Gracey, a director of commercials and a master visual effects artist, to direct its live-action Snow White feature film, The Order of the Seven (f/k/a Snow and the Seven), per Heat Vision. Gracey had been an animator with Animal Logic, which worked on the animated movie Happy Feet. France Lawrence (Water for Elephants, I Am Legend) was previously set to direct the picture, but has since left the project. Writer Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3) recently gave the script for the movie a re-write.
The Hub is heating up for its Dog Days of Summer weeklong programming event August 8-14, which will feature dog-themed movies and culminates with the premiere of new episodes of Hasbro Studios‘ animated series Pound Puppies. Two new Pound Puppies episodes will debut back-to-back on Saturday, August 13 9a-10a. The dog-centric movies featured during the week include 102 Dalmatians, Air Bud, All Dogs Go to Heaven and Cats & Dogs.
Nickelodeon will premiere new episodes of its animated series Fanboy and Chum Chum on Saturday, August 27, 11a-12p. Wrapping around the new episodes will be new behind-the-scenes promos for the series featuring actors Josh Duhamel and Jamie Kennedy, who voice the characters of Oz and Kyle, along with the animated versions of Fanboy and Chum Chum, who are voiced by David Hornsby and Nika Futterman.
THQ and Mattel will release the new Barbie Jet, Set & Style videos game for Wii (the Wii Remote), Nintendo DS and DSi in September 2011. The game will invite Barbie fans create “Hair-tastic” hairstyles, couture fashions and do makeup and nails, by using realistic movements with the different handheld systems, across ten cities around the world. The game lets players develop and perfect their skills and help prepare a Global Glam Fashion Show for Barbie.
Skyreader Media will release the re-mastered classic kid/family book series Norbert Nipkin, by Canada’s Robert McConnell, for digital release. Illustrated by Pixar artist Steve Pilcher, each of the five eBooks is reintroduced with new paintings and animations and will be available for the iPad.
Three Lego Minifigures depart earth today on NASA‘s Juno deep-space probe, which is on a five-year mission to Jupiter to underline the importance of planetary research and help NASA understand the structure, atmosphere, magnetosphere and history of the planet. The three specially constructed of aluminum Lego Minifigures are part of the Lego Bricks in Space project, a joint outreach and educational program developed under the partnership between Lego Group and NASA that aims to encourage kids to explore science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), and improve their understanding of our solar system. The three minifigures on Juno are depictions of the Roman god Jupiter, his wife Juno and the father of science Galileo Galilei and will be featured on Legospace.com ( www.legospace.com ), which features educational material about space and offers downloads, videos, a Legonaut game, and space exploration facts. Later this year the website will showcase videos of experiments conducted with the Lego Education models on the International Space Station.
