Cynopsis: Kids!

08/28/09

Good morning. It’s Friday, August 28, 2009, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Eddie Izzard will star in CBBC‘s newly commissioned family-targeted drama, The Lost Christmas (1×90), which is set to premiere in 2011/2012 on BBC One.  Set in Manchester England as folks are preparing for Christmas, a mysterious man named Anthony (Izzard) wakes up in the street unsure of where he is or why he’s there  but with the unique power to find the lost.  Over Christmas Eve Anthony changes the lives of five people whose lives have been destroyed by decisions made earlier in life.  Penned by John Hay and Dave Logan, The Lost Christmas is directed by Hay and produced by Impact Film & Television for CBBC.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Tiger Aspect Productions partners with The Jim Henson Company on a new series, Me And My Monsters (26×30), for CBBC, per Broadcast Now.  Created/written by Mark Grant and developed by Tiger Aspect, Me And My Monsters revolves around an American family (including a young boy) that rents a home in London for a remarkably reduced price … only to discover the reason is that the house has three loveable (yet scary) monsters living in the basement, who they try to hid from their neighbors.

MORE KIDS STUFF

Nick at Nite welcomes Everybody Hates Chris to its lineup on Labor Day, September 7.  Co-created by actor/comedian Chris Rock, and based on his childhood, the series launches on the network with an all-night marathon from 10p-6a.  The series will then join the network’s regular lineup the following day with back-to-back episodes airing nightly from 10-11p.  Nick at Nite acquired all four seasons (88 episodes) of Everybody Hates Chris, which originally aired from 2005-2009 on UPN/CW, from CBS Television Distribution.

DQ Entertainment (DQE) new animated feature Ravan (1×70) in India on Turner International‘s kid-targeted Pogo on Sunday, August 30 at 12p.  Produced by DQE, Raven is based on a folktale of Dashanan a daitya son with super natural powers and a genius, who was named as Ravan, and is very close with his siblings.  The story follows the siblings on several adventures.

Peter Glassman, the founder of NYC’s Books of Wonder store, will begin appearing on Absolutely Mindy on Sirius/XM satellite radio’s Kids Place Live to discuss kid’s book beginning next month, per Publishers Weekly.

He’s back and things could be worse than ever!  UK publisher Egmont Press has signed on to publish a new series of books by A Series of Unfortunate Events author Lemony Snicket (aka Daniel Handler), according to the BBC.  The new book series, which has yet to be named, will include four titles with the first title set for release in 2012.  For the new series the author is working again with his long-time editor Susan Rich.  Snicket’s initial 13-book series, A Series of Unfortunate Events, has sold 60+ million copies worldwide since the first title was released in 1999.  The Egmont publishing deal is for the UK and Commonwealth publishing rights, which includes Australia and New Zealand.

MARKETING/LICENSING

Bella Sara brings its worldwide licensing in-house with George Stetar VP/International Business, Licensing and Merchandising overseeing all efforts.  Bella Sara’s most recent licensing deals in North America include those with Waterbury Garment (kid’s sleepwear, intimate apparel), Jakks Pacific (branded toys), and international deals with Giochi Preziosi (toys across Europe) and The Cookie Company (European apparel).

Classic Media has partnered with Specsavers, a UK-based optician chain store, to feature Postman Pat in a TV commercial for the retailers 2-for-1 campaign, which will air beginning this September.  The commercial features Postman Pat and his side-kick Jess the Cat as they make their deliveries, but things go awry when Pat accidentally sits on his only pair of glasses  following which delivery mayhem ensues.
