Good Morning. It’s Friday, August 24, 2007, and this is your first early morning briefing.
In an interesting move, Fox has combined the premiere and finale of Anchorwoman into one episode. The show premiere – and series finale – on Wednesday night at 8p and earned a paltry 1.0/3 A18-49 ratings and a total of 2.7 million viewers. If you’re one of the few who are really interested to see if Lauren Jones can become a credible news reporter and anchor for KYTX/Tyler, Texas, you’ll have to find out on Fox.com’s video on demand page.

A spiffed-up The Price Is Right, in its 36th season along with new host Drew Carey will premiere October 15 at 11a on CBS. The new season will have contestants winning more expensive cars, trips to more exotic locations all on a set that has been revamped yet one that still looks familiar to its die-hard fans. The game show is produced by FremantleMedia North America.
Discovery Health returns the show that features the modern-day couple who had one pair of twins followed by sextuplets when they tried for “just one more”. Jon and Kate Plus 8 premieres season two on October 2 at 10p with more trials and joys of the Gosselin family. Two 30m episodes air back-to-back on Thursdays between 10-11p and encore airings of the new episodes will also be shown on TLC starting October 15 at 9p.
MyNetworkTV will introduce two new original primetime programs starting on October 1 and airing weekly on Monday nights:
- Celebrity Expose (wt) – this weekly series airing at 8p will go in-depth behind the attention-getting headlines of popular celebrities. Produced by Access Entertainment News Productions, the same entity behind syndicated newsmagazine Access Hollywood.
- Control Room Presents – weekly series at 9p will showcase concert performances in high-definition from various artists such as Mandy Moore at Chicago Park West and Maroon 5 at Montreal’s Cabaret Club. The show will also present interviews and back-stage access to the performers.

E! Entertainment will extend the 30m late night comedy talk show Chelsea Lately with new episodes through 2007. The weeknight show with host Chelsea Handler features a round-table of guests talking about current news and celebrity gossip as well as one-on-one celebrity interviews and comic field segments.
The Nielsen Company estimates the total number of television households in the U.S. (including Alaska and Hawaii) will move up to 112.8 million by January 1, 2008. This represents a 1.3% increase since last year. Nielsen also estimates the number of 2+ viewers will increase by 1% to 286 million. These new estimates, along with breakdowns by age and demographics, are effective August 27 and will be used for the 2007-2008 television season. Additionally, Nielsen issued some local market growth changes, mostly with markets located in the Sunbelt, which affect the overall DMA ranking:
- New Orleans grew by 6% and moved up one step to #54
- Dallas-Ft. Worth is now #5
- Atlanta jumped to #8
- Phoenix has continued to grow and is now #12
- Charlotte became a Top 25 market sitting at #25
- Palm Springs stretched up four notches to #144
- Austin had a 6% increase in TV households making it #51
- Boise moved up to #113 from #118

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~
Fox ordered up a new comedy pilot called This Might Hurt from 20th Century Fox TV and writer/director Jason Winer. The project is set in a private medical office which is home to a pediatrician, an internist and an OB-GYN. In addition to the scripted material, will also rely on actors’ improvisation. Production begins in the next couple of months.

Aaron Speilberg moved to Program Director at 1050 ESPN Radio/New York up from Executive Producer. Aaron will be in charge of all the station’s programming operations as well as the on-air talent and production staff.
The Weather Channel hired Jerry Arias as Affiliate Marketing Director to create and execute marketing strategy in support of business initiatives and network programming. Jerry was previously a Manager in the Affiliate Sales and Marketing Teams at Fox Cable Networks.
Clear Channel Katz Advantage upgraded John Garbo to VP/Manager of Network Advantage based in Los Angeles.

Wednesday – A18-49 Analysis: NBC was successful Wednesday night winning with a 2.4/7 A18-49, according to fast affiliate ratings from Nielsen Media Research. CBS’ game show Power of 10 took the 8p hour with a 2.2/7. Also during 8p FOX premiered a new series Anchorwoman which posted a fifth place tie with CW’s America’s Next Top Model encore at 1.0/3. It was NBC’s turn at 9p as the comedic reality show Last Comic Standing won with a 3.1/9. Then at 10p, the #1 status see-sawed back to CBS as the CSI: NY repeat delivered a 2.4/7.
