~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

Following the death of Russell Armstrong, Bravo has decided to push back the season two premiere date of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills by at least a week and possibly longer, per THR.  The reality series was due to premiere September 5.  Thus far, there have been suggestions the series will be canceled.  Armstrong was the estranged husband of cast member Taylor Armstrong.  Evolution Entertainment produced the series.   A Bravo spokesperson responds: “This is completely inaccurate.  We have not made or announced any decisions about the show.”

TLC axed another series saying the current fourth season of LA Ink will be its last.  LA Ink, starring Kat Von D and chronicling her move from Miami to Los Angeles, will air its series finale on September 15.

Fox Sports announced a seven-year media rights agreement with Zuffa, LLC owner of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).  Beginning this November, the new deal allows four live events to air on FOX, the first time the mixed martial arts organization will have its events on broadcast TV.  Furthermore, the reality series The Ultimate Fighter will move from Spike TV to FX beginning in spring 2012.  On FX, The Ultimate Fighter will sport a newly revamped live format. Spike TV will continue to air The Ultimate Fighter’s season 14, debuting this September.  In announcing the cancellation of The Ultimate Fighter on its network, Spike TV released this statement:

“The Ultimate Fighter season 14 in September will be our last. We are increasing our commitment to distinctive, original series that we own such as Auction Hunters and Bar Rescue which are delivering on our goal to reach a broader audience. Our 6-year partnership with the UFC has been incredibly beneficial in building both our brands, and we wish them all the best in the future.”

Come October, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network premieres seven new and returning original series in primetime:

  • The previously announced debut date for The Rosie Show is October 10 at 7p followed by the premiere of Oprah’s Lifeclass at 8p.  Both series air Monday through Friday.  The Rosie Show is produced by Harpo Studios in association with KidRo Productions, Inc. and SantaBu Productions.  Oprah’s Lifeclass, formerly titled Your OWN Life (the oprah class) is produced by Harpo Productions.
  • Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s highlights the two successful soul food restaurants in St. Louis run by Robbie Montgomery, one of the original back-up singers for Ike and Tina Turner in the 1960s. Miss Robbie at age 71 is opening a third restaurant location with help from her son and business partner, Tim while Miss Robbie, who has never been married, continues to look for love herself.  Produced by Pilgrim Films & Television, the series premieres October 15 at 9p.
  • Don’t Tell the Bride is a reality series where cash-strapped couples are given $25,000 to create their dream wedding.  The catch: the bride and groom are separated for three weeks while the groom must plan the entire wedding with no help from the bride.  Caroline Rhea narrates the series produced by Shed Media U.S. and based on a series format from Renegade Pictures and Digital Rights Group.  Premieres October 15 at 10p.
  • Ask Oprah’s All Stars, hosted by Gayle King is back for a new season featuring Dr. Phil, Suze Orman and Dr. Oz as they answer viewer questions about health, wealth and mental well-being.  Produced by Stage 29 Productions, the series debuts October 16 at 8p.
  • Our America with Lisa Ling in a new season continues to spotlight challenging and thought-provoking issues in our society today.  Produced by part2 pictures, the series opens October 16 at 9p.
  • Visionaries: Inside the Creative Mind is an hour-long docu-series featuring the world’s creative innovators at work and what inspires them.  The season profiles Tyler Perry, Tom Ford, James Cameron, will.i.am and Annie Leibovitz.  Produced by @radical.media, the series launches October 16 at 10p.

Also in October, MTV premieres the new docu-series Chelsea Settles, a 12-episode series about Chelsea Settles, a 23-year old recent college grad who dreams of pursuing a fashion career in Los Angeles.  The half-hour series follows Chelsea as she leaves her small town outside of Pittsburgh and begins a new start in L.A.  Chelsea Settles opens October 11 at 11p with a one-hour episode followed by 30m episodes beginning October 18.  The series will additionally debut on MTV channels internationally starting early next year.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & CARRIAGE ~

CBS made an affiliation deal with Saga Communications, Inc.’s station KXTS in Victoria, TX, effective September 12.  KXTS is currently a MyNetworkTV affiliate.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Game show host, syndicated radio personality and author Steve Harvey is teaming with Endemol USA to star in a new talk show targeting a fall 2012 launch.  Endemol has apparently talked with Harvey for nearly two years about hosting his own syndicated talk show. The format will showcase Harvey’s comedy as he chats with real people about their relationships.  A pilot episode will be shot soon, executive produced by Harvey and his longtime business partner Rushion McDonald along with an in-house production group at Endemol.  No studio has been selected yet, though Endemol will produce the talk show on the East Coast where Harvey currently hosts the syndicated game show Family Feud, distributed by Debmar-Mercury and produced by FremantleMedia North America, as well as his syndicated radio morning show, Steve Harvey Morning Show.   Additionally, Harvey has authored two books and one titled Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man, will be adapted into a feature film released in 2012.

The Western genre is getting another revival as TNT gave a cast-contingent pilot order to Gateway from writer Bruce McKenna (Band of Brothers, The Pacific) and Danny Cannon, the producer/director of Nikita and CSI.  The action/adventure project is set in a town called Gateway, Colorado in the 1880s.  The plot is about three brothers who try to save their town against a corrupt cattle baron after their sheriff father is murdered.

Spike TV inked a deal with Dave Navarro to host its upcoming tattoo competition series, InkMaster.  The eight-episode one-hour series, produced by Original Media, is set to premiere in January 2012.

beActive developed and is going into production on the documentary series, 350 South: An American Journey, described as the first transmedia adventure documentary.  The series treks along with environmentalists Ian Lacey of Ireland and Lee Savile of the US on their year-long cycling journey from Alaska to Argentina.  The pair travels through 15 countries, three mountain ranges and other harsh environments in more than 350 days.  350 South: An American Journey has various multimedia components including online, mobile and interactive elements such as a Facebook page, Twitter, iPhone and iPad apps, video blogs and more giving viewers the ability to track Ian and Lee’s progress and where they are located on a daily basis.

Singapore-based The Group Entertainment forged a deal with Electus/Engine Distribution, the global distribution unit of Electus in association with Small World IFT, to co-produce and distribute a US version of the new drama series The Kitchen Musical.  As of this October, The Kitchen Musical will premiere across Asia on both free-to-air and pay-television outlets.  The series will feature drama, popular music, dancing and recipes all in one production.  Broadcasters set to debut The Kitchen Musical in October include AXN Asia in 18 Asian countries; MetroTV in Indonesia; NTV7 in Malaysia; and Studio 23 in the Philippines.  Co-producers of The Kitchen Musical are The Group Entertainment, Electus/Engine Distribution and Small World Productions with Electus/Engine Distribution holding distribution rights for all platforms encompassing television, motion picture and digital.

ITV Studios America made an exclusive overall development and executive producer agreement with reality producer Tim Eagan (Temptation Island, Nanny911, Hell’s Kitchen and more) and his Show 5 Productions.  Eagan is exclusively working on new content for ITV Studios and is also serving as Executive Producer/Showrunner for the company’s new FOX series Buried Treasure debuting August 24.

Casting Call: Magic Stone Productions and Brainstorm Media made a deal to produce an Untitled Haunted House feature documentary for an NBCUniversal cable network.  The feature documentary will offer a fun and up-close look into the lives of adults who go to great lengths to create the ultimate homemade haunted house.  The producers are looking for people who are passionate about Halloween and enjoy creating amateur haunts and like to share their creations with the world.  Casting and submission information can be found at: www.homemadehaunt.com .
